Description
In 1999, The Derek Trucks Band released “The Derek Trucks Band” and “Out of the Madness,” and their touring activities were in full swing. This soundboard album will capture that momentum. This work features two consecutive performances at the same venue: “May 29th/30th, 1999 Redondo Beach Performance.” This is a stereo soundboard recording. The Derek Trucks Band’s stage debut dates back to 1991, but their touring activities only began in earnest after the release of “Out of the Madness.” This is a good opportunity to look back at their activities at the time and explore their position in this work. 1998 January 11th – May 21st: North America #1 (21 performances) July 10th – September 11th: North America #2 (9 performances) (October 20th “OUT OF THE MADNESS” released) October 31st: Atlanta performance November 27th – December 31st: North America #3 (9 performances) 1999 January 14th – July 15th: North America #4 (51 performances) ←★Coco★ August 11th – 18th: North America #5 (5 performances) September 11th – October 23rd: North America #6 (9 performances) November 17th – December 31st: North America #7 (14 performances) The newly discovered original DAT master directly connected to the mix desk This is Derek Trucks in 1998/1999. Until then, there were only a dozen or so live shows per year, but the number suddenly increased. In particular, 1999 saw the band’s expansion to approximately 80 performances, the same level as the current TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND. The Redondo Beach performance featured in this work was “North America #4,” marking the band’s 40th and 41st performances. While these two shows were held consecutively, they differed slightly in meaning: the “May 29th” performance was a full set, while the “May 30th” performance was the opening for John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. This work is a two-disc set that combines the two performances. This work, which conveys these two performances, is a masterpiece directly connected to the mix desk. In fact, the soundboard for the “May 29th” performance had been known for some time, but it was based on an incomplete master with several cuts, and was incorrectly credited as “1994.” In contrast, this work is a masterpiece created directly from the original DAT recorded at the mix desk. Its upgrade is overwhelming in both quality and quantity. The “May 29th” recording is a complete version lasting approximately 87 minutes, with no sound or dubbing marks, making it the ultimate Genesis. Of course, the “May 30th” recording from the following day was also simultaneously unearthed and re-recorded from the original DAT, with the same quality. It’s a pleasure board where raw, unfiltered live performances flow unprocessed and unedited into your brain. This complete live album of two performances features a vast array of cover songs. The original master sound depicts a scorching blues rock with a rich and varied repertoire. “THE DEREK TRUCKS BAND” and “OUT OF THE MADNESS” were packed with diverse cover songs, but the live performances expanded even further. Let’s summarize the two performances here. Album songs (5 songs + 5 songs) Derek Trucks Band: Naima [John Coltrane] / Mr. P.C. Some tracks, like “Rasta Man Chant” and “Afro-Blue,” appear on “SOUL SERENADE,” but there are also a variety of other classic covers performed nonstop. The seeds of the ultimate live band that continues to this day in TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND were already beginning to emerge.
