Description

Up until now, The Who’s 1975 US tour has focused on sound sources capturing the December stage, and recent releases such as “SPRINGFIELD 1975 REVISITED” and “TORONTO 1975” have been typical examples. However, the atmosphere of this tour is quite different between November and December. However, speaking of November items, the only official Houston footage is the one, and there were few high-quality audience recordings to begin with. However, this time, JEMS unearthed a November audience recording with excellent sound quality. It’s surprising that such a clear and easy-to-listen sound source has been sleeping until now without any public availability. Anyway, the clear stereo audience recording is excellent, and it finally seems like a high-quality audience comparable to the past December items has appeared from the November stage. Not only is it clear, but the expansive presence is also wonderful. And yet, there are no noisy customers nearby, which is common in American audience recordings. As you can see from the footage from Houston the day before, this tour was met with rapturous enthusiasm. That’s why the quality of this recording is almost miraculous. Of course, since it was recorded in 1975, there was some tape warping on “Substitute” and a brief mic scrape on “See Me, Feel Me,” but these were insignificant in the overall listenability. In fact, I can’t help but feel glad that these issues were contained. This is, after all, newly unearthed Who recordings that had been lying dormant for 50 years. And even in the US in 1975, it vividly demonstrates how different November and December sounded. This tour was primarily intended to promote “BY NUMBERS,” and “However Much I Booze,” featuring Pete’s vocals, was included in the setlist. However, perhaps because the song didn’t seem to fit the stage well amid the more subdued atmosphere of “BY NUMBERS,” or perhaps because it simply wasn’t well-received, it was dropped in November. The high quality sound captured in this unfortunate repertoire is a highlight for enthusiasts. The performance itself was also excellent, and it’s hard to deny that the American audience, eager to hear “TOMMY” over new material, seemed to have been a disappointment. The selection of older repertoire was also unique to this time of year. John Entwistle featured “Boris the Spider” at the start of the tour. However, by December, he’d reverted to the familiar “My Wife,” so this short-lived song from the 1975 repertoire can be enjoyed in high quality. Furthermore, after John finished singing, he even introduced the song, a rare MC, which was perhaps another new initiative. His introduction kicked off with “Drowned.” Not only is this a repertoire that disappeared before December, but it’s also refreshingly quintessentially 1975. In fact, this release will likely be the first time most people hear the 1975 rendition. This newly discovered sound source is packed with the charm of November, which is completely different from December, even in the same year in the United States in 1975, and has surprisingly high sound quality. Even if you’re not a fanatic, you can enjoy it if you listen to rare scenes one after another and it’s easy to listen to!
