Description
Mark Knopfler solidified his solo career in 2001 with the smash hit “SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA.” This soundboard album will immerse you in the glorious live performance. This work was recorded at the “June 16, 2001 Hamburg Performance.” This is a stereo soundboard recording. Although Knopfler continued to work on soundtracks and other projects under his solo name after “GOLDEN HEART,” this was his first world tour in five years. Let’s start by unpacking his activities at the time and examining the position of this work. 2000 (“SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA” released on September 25th) 2001: March 27th – April 8th: Latin America (10 shows), April 23rd – May 27th: North America (28 shows) ← *WAG THE DOG ・June 3rd – July 9th: Europe #1 (30 shows) ← ★COCO★ ・July 17th – 31st: Europe #2 (12 shows) This is Mark Knopfler in 2000/2001. Around the time of the release of the album “SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA,” he only made promotional media appearances, and a full-scale tour finally began in March 2001, six months later. This Hamburg performance was the 12th performance of “Europe #1,” which was past the halfway point. This show was also broadcast on FM as part of “STADTPARK OPEN AIR.” It has long been known as a staple. This work was made into a CD from the best master of such an FM soundboard. In fact, the sound is truly amazing. The somewhat rough mix feels more like a live broadcast, more like an “excavated official” than a “completely official” one, and it also has a broadcast era feel. Above all, the master’s freshness is exquisite, and the freshness is dazzling, with no dubbing marks or aging. This FM soundboard depicts the stage in the midst of a delicious hit with the precious “SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA” number. Speaking of the “SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA Tour,” our shop is also familiar with the IEM album “WAG THE DOG (Uxbridge 208).” Let’s compare the set contents here. Solo (4 songs + α) – Sailing to Philadelphia: What It Is (The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond) / Junkie Doll (★) / Speedway At Nazareth – Unreleased songs: Pyroman (★) DIRE STRAITS (4 songs + 4 songs) – Brothers in Arms: Walk Of Life / Brothers In Arms / Money For Nothing / So Far Away – Others: Calling Elvis / Romeo And Juliet / Sultans Of Swing / Telegraph Road *Note: “★” indicates exclusive songs that were only performed in 2001. “*” indicates songs that were not heard on the IEM album “WAG THE DOG”. …And so it goes. “What It Is” is a unique arrangement with the Scottish folk song “The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond” in the intro, but the DJ overlaps at the point where the songs change. Also noteworthy are the limited-edition tracks “Junkie Doll” and “Pyroman,” which were not performed on later tours. The latter, “Pyroman,” is a rare track that ended up not appearing on the album, and this work is a treasure that allows you to listen to it on a beautiful soundboard. The “SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA Tour” saw official recordings of the Madrid and Toronto shows, but the production was canceled. This work serves as the official soundboard album. This is a stereo soundboard recording of the “Hamburg Performance on June 16, 2001.” The sound, converted to CD from the FM soundboard’s best master, is “official excavation grade,” with a dazzling freshness that is free of dubbing marks or aging. The limited-edition tracks “Junkie Doll” and “Pyroman,” which were not performed on later tours, are also official replacements for the delicious hit tour.
