Ace Frehley signaled his comeback to the world in 1987 with his debut album, “Frehley’s Comet.” Now, a soundboard album is available that will let you experience that live performance in your mind. This work features a soundboard recording of the “June 29, 1987 Milwaukee Performance” at the Summerfest music festival. Frehley’s Comet’s history can be broadly divided into two periods: “Pre-debut (1984/1985)” and “Post-debut (1987/1988).” This album documents the latter. Let’s start by taking a bird’s-eye view of their activities during the “post-debut” period and then delve into the position of this album. 1987 (April 27th, “FREHLEY’S COMET” released) June 20th – October 3rd: North America #1 (65 shows) ←★here★ October 28th – November 13th: North America #2 (14 shows) December 11th – 31st: North America #3a (6 shows) 1988 January 1st – 3rd: North America #3b (3 shows) March 19th, “HAMMERSMITH ODEON 1988” (May 24th, “SECOND SIGHTING” released) June 26th – August 2nd: North America #4 (22 shows) This is FREHLEY’S COMET in 1984/1988. There were no public activities in 1986, but in 1987, with the release of “FREHLEY’S COMET,” live performances resumed. The tour continued in two parts, from “North America #1” to the following year’s “HAMMERSMITH ODEON 1988” as the “FREHLEY’S COMET Tour.” Only the final “North America #4” was part of the “SECOND SIGHTING Tour.” During this journey, this work’s appearance at “Summerfest” marked the eighth performance of “North America #1,” shortly after the release of their first album. It also occurred about two months before the recently acclaimed “CHICAGO 1987 (Shades 2475).” This work, which conveys such a stage, is a clear and direct FM soundboard. The recently announced “CHICAGO 1987” sound split opinions between the soundboard and the audience, but this work is an FM soundboard that was digitized directly from the original aircheck master. Perhaps due to the characteristics of the original broadcast, it has a vintage sound that is more 80s-like than official, but its freshness is outstanding. There are almost no dubbing marks or aging, and even the finest details are perfectly preserved. The directness of the guitar is particularly impressive, capturing the nuances of the pick rubbing against the strings in exquisite detail. This ultra-direct sound creates a stage that surpasses even the critically acclaimed “CHICAGO 1987.” The sheer volume of songs is simply incredible. Let’s compare and organize the set. Frehley’s Comet (8 songs): Stranger in a Strange Land, Something Moved, Love Me Right (★), In the Night, Rock Soldiers, Breakout, Calling to You, We Got Your Rock (★); 70s (2 songs + 4 songs): Solo albums: Rip It Out, New York Groove; KISS numbers: Cold Gin, Shock Me, Deuce (★), Rocket Ride. *Note: “★” indicates songs not included in the classic “CHICAGO 1987.” …and so it goes. It covers the entire repertoire heard on “CHICAGO 1987,” adding three more tracks. Among them, “Love Me Right” and “We Got Your Rock” haven’t been performed since Ace went solo, and “We Got Your Rock” in particular is a delicious track not even heard on the tour’s masterpiece, “HAMMERSMITH ODEON 1988.” The Frehley’s Comet era was a mysterious period in Ace’s career. This soundboard album sheds light on his only full-scale tour, “North America #1.” This album will imbue your brain with a number of classics that surpass the masterpiece “CHICAGO 1987.” This soundboard recording is from the “Summerfest” performance on June 29, 1987. This masterpiece, digitized directly from the original aircheck master, is exceptionally fresh. “Love Me Right” and “We Got Your Rock,” which he stopped performing after going solo, are also delicious new soundboard masterpieces.
