Description
The Cure reached their peak in 1992, returning to gothic rock with the release of “DISINTEGRATION” and “WISH.” This superb soundboard and pro-shot set allows you to fully enjoy the stage. This work features two of the best masters of one show. It’s a three-disc set featuring a stereo soundboard recording of the “May 3, 1992 London Performance” on Discs 1-2 and a multi-camera pro-shot on Disc 3. Speaking of 1992, the band also released the official live albums “SHOW” and “PARIS,” but of course this work is a separate performance. To clarify the situation, let’s first take a look at their activities at the time. 1992 (April 21st release of “WISH”): April 21st – May 3rd: UK (11 shows) ←★COCO★; May 14th – July 23rd: North America (44 shows) ←*Official SHOW; August 13th – 28th: Oceania (10 shows); September 21st – December 3rd: Europe (46 shows) ←*Official PARIS. This is THE CURE from the “WISH” era. The official “SHOW” was recorded as the “North American” leg, and “PARIS” as the “European” leg, but this London performance was the final day of the “UK” leg, which differed from both. This work is a definitive set that includes the best master soundboard and pro shots that convey such a show. Let’s introduce each one individually. DISC 1-2: Completely official-grade SBD with the finest DAT master. The main focus of this work is a two-disc full live album. This show is famous for being broadcast on the alternative radio station “Radio X,” and has become a staple that has spawned numerous pre-releases. This release features the best master recording of the show. It was converted to CD from the highest quality DAT master provided by an overseas THE CURE researcher. The sound is truly official. It’s not just flawless; the mix is beautifully organized and full of elegance, reminiscent of a work from start to finish. The sense of balance that brings Robert Smith’s vocals to the forefront differs from “SHOW,” but that’s hardly a bad thing. Such a sound portrays a full show that surpasses even “SHOW.” While the traditional official release was over two hours long, this release is about 15 minutes longer, at approximately 144 minutes. It also showcases plenty of repertoire not heard on “SHOW,” so let’s organize it by comparing the two. Gothic return (3 songs + 9 songs)・Disintegration: Pictures of You/Lullaby/Fascination Street・Wish: Open/High/Doing the Unstuck/Apart (★)/Wendy Time (★★)/Friday I’m in Love/From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea/Cut/End Others (14 songs)・Seventeen Seconds: In Your House (★)/M (★★)/A Forest・The Head on the Door: A Night Like This/In Between Days・Others: Just Like Heaven/The Walk/Let’s Go To Bed/Never Enough/Three Imaginary Boys (★★)/Boys Don’t Cry/Charlotte Sometimes (★)/Primary/A Strange Day (★★) *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard on the official “SHOW”. In particular, songs marked with “★★” are not also on “PARIS”. DVD: Pro Shot Edition of the Same Live Following this full soundboard is a multi-camera pro shot of the same “May 3, 1992 London Performance.” It follows the approximately 62-minute broadcast timeframe, so it’s only half of the show, but the visual pro shot footage is still very compelling. These have also been converted to DVD from the 1st Gene Master, considered the best existing, and are incredibly beautiful. While the 1990s TV broadcast aircheck has an undeniable analog feel, the freshness is outstanding. The over-smoked stage is dated, but there are minimal dubbing marks and no white line noise. While this is merely the subtext of the main full soundboard (DISC 1-2), the image of the full live album changes dramatically when you actually witness it on video. Unlike the official “SHOW” and “PARIS” albums, which were assembled from multiple shows, this is a superb soundboard album that allows you to fully enjoy a full show. And here’s a multi-camera pro shot that shows you the “other side.” This three-disc set combines two professional recordings with the best masters, including plenty of classic tracks not available on “SHOW.” It’s a three-disc set featuring a stereo soundboard recording and multi-camera pro shots from the “May 3, 1992 London Performance.” Both are based on masters said to be the best in existence, and the soundboard edition (DISC 1-2) in particular offers plenty of repertoire not available on the official “SHOW” and “PARIS” tours.
