Description
This is a secret recording that will shock fans, as it is a coupling recording of the New Haven, Palace Theater performance on May 10th, which is the first performance from the North American tour that also promoted the rare masterpiece “Song X” released in 1986, and the Berklee Performance Center performance on May 11th the next day. To review the band members again, the two masters Pat Metheny and Ornette Coleman are at the head of the irregular quintet, with Charlie Haden on bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums, and Denard Coleman, Ornette Coleman’s son. Pat Metheny’s deep musicality is truly amazing, as he easily meets Ornette Coleman’s demands without any compromise, from breathtaking improvised jazz to swingy hard bop with thrilling developments throughout the live performance. What’s even more surprising is the shockingly direct sound. Both performances are unearthed audience recordings, but the sound quality is hard to believe considering they were recorded about 40 years ago. You can experience the illusion of being at a live venue, and even in the front row, bathed in sound. Of course, even if you listen with headphones, you can be satisfied with the super sound of another dimension. A masterpiece of another dimension has been born before the 40th anniversary, which is approaching next year.
