Description
Two live performances, one by duo and one by quintet, are recorded on couplings with soundboard recordings from FM on-air masters. Disc 1 is a 76-minute recording of a duo with his friend Herbie Hancock on November 8, 1997 in Berlin, Germany, featuring both of their repertoires as well as songs from the Miles Davis era, all performed simply with saxophone and piano. Disc 2 is a 35-minute digest of their quartet performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada on June 26, 2003. This is a complete change of pace, with a full band featuring regular members at the time, such as Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, and Brian Blade, and the creative performance by these superb members is of course wonderful, and the incredible ad-lib exchanges between the members are a must-listen.
