Description
This sound source was released at “LIVE IN DUBLIN 2018”, and the sound image is quite well balanced, so it is enough for beginners and enthusiasts to listen to with confidence. In addition, it even conveys a rounded warm feeling, so it is even more so. When releasing this excellent sound source, although it originally boasts a high level of sound quality, it is meaningless to seal it on a CD without making any changes. Therefore, as a result of equalization to adjust the mid-range area for this release, the easy-to-listen-to sound quality has been improved to an even higher level. I am proud that it has finally become a finished product that can be enjoyed by a wide range of fans. To begin with, the sound image was close and the recording was powerful, but the processing doubled the power. And yet it is not an unpleasant finish, but rather it will convey the power of the performance on this day more realistically. One of the great attractions of this sound source is that Darryl Jones’ bass playing is captured with truly stunning clarity. For example, this is evident in the opening songs “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Satisfaction”. This balance has become even clearer with this equalization, and I think it feels like a very satisfying sound quality. Also, “Sympathy for…” is the only opening number in Dublin so far. On the other hand, if I had to point out a negative point about this sound source, it would be the voices of the surrounding audience. Since 2012, the Stones have stopped performing consecutive shows like in the past, taking into account the age of the members. And yet, the best way to make a sure profit is to gather a large audience at one show. In particular, when touring in Europe, they often use large outdoor venues, and the disadvantage of this is that the surroundings tend to become noisy. In fact, in Dublin, the surrounding noise becomes piercing as the excitement builds up around “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, and in the second half of “Midnight Rambler”, a woman makes a strange noise at close range of the taper. On the other hand, when “Tumbling Dice” started, the audience joined in the chorus part, singing “Uh-oh-uh-uh”, or when it was announced that “Wild Horses” would be played, a woman expressed her joy by saying “Thank you”, so it was not just noisy, but also a sense of realism with warm points everywhere. Let me say that it is a sense of realism with pros and cons. In a sense, this Dublin performance can be called a recovery from the stigma of the early part of the previous tour. Of course, this does not mean that the overall performance speed has increased, and “Paint It Black”, which was mentioned at the time of the previous release, and even the numbers in the latter half of the show are still played at a slow tempo. And yet, as symbolized by “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll” on this day, there was no performance with a tempo that was so sluggish that it seemed like it would stop. That is completely different from last year’s Hamburg. Rather, the charm of Dublin was that the reliable performance, which seemed to be settled down at a calm tempo, was heard throughout the show. Furthermore, it was definitely a good idea to stick to a set list with a safe composition throughout the whole tour. Among them, “Neighbours”, the highlight of Dublin, was also wonderful. The speed is not comparable to the past, but it still has plenty of momentum. More than that, while Mick is singing, Keith plays his favorite Chuck Berry pattern repeatedly, and in the interlude, Ronnie plays hard, making the most of each other’s strengths, creating a great effect. This is a repertoire that I hope they will continue to play in the future. As you can see from not only the interlude of this song but also the already released “DUBLIN 2018: THE VIDEO”, Ronnie, who seems to be more full of energy and more motivated than last year’s tour, may be the eye of the storm on this tour. Anyway, the sound quality and performance are excellent in Dublin, and the upper feeling due to the equalization is tremendous. But, I would like to say again that there are few funny points that are common to the Stones on the first day of the tour (laughs).
