Description

Just a month ago, the Wiltern Theatre was broadcast without any warning, shocking enthusiasts around the world. It was a long version of the theater gig during the 2002 leg of the “LICKS” tour, and became a huge bestseller despite being released on DVD. Furthermore, when the soundboard album “WILTERN 2002” was released, which extracted the audio from the DVD, it was unexpected that it became a huge hit. It was expected that vintage albums such as “Philaspe” and the recent “WELCOME TO NEW YORK!” would be popular, but the fact that the Wiltern, a relatively recent live performance (although it was already 20 years ago), has become so popular is nothing but a pleasant surprise for the release side. Many people said that it was a “raw mix that conveys the feel of a theater gig,” “the performance is super hot,” and “it fits on one CD and is easy to listen to.” Although the Wiltern Theatre sold out, contrary to our expectations in a good way, we have received a flood of requests for a re-release. We considered adding more, but wait… even though it is only one CD, there is still some space left. So this time, we have further enriched the content by adding “You Don’t Have To Mean It” from the take that was adopted as a bonus content of the DVD “FOUR FLICKS”. As a result, four songs were adopted on the DVD and five songs were adopted on the “LIVE LICKS” live album, but the latter was out of the question due to the strangeness of the elaborate mix (which can be said about the whole album). In fact, the sound of this video conveyed the vivid feeling of the live theater much better than that. That’s why we decided to adopt the Keith song from the DVD. Fortunately, the sound of “FOUR FLICKS” was not too far from this mix, so even if we inserted “You Don’t Have To Mean It” from there, it didn’t feel strange. Not only has this improved the content of just one song, but the performance of “You Don’t…” on the “LICKS” tour is surprisingly (or rather, quite) valuable. The first performance on the tour was at the Roseland Ballroom theater gig, which can be heard on the now-popular “ROSELAND BALLROOM 2002,” and Keith probably intended to treat it as a theater repertoire from the beginning. It was then performed at the Sky Dome in Canada, and the third performance on the tour was here at the Wiltern. After that, it disappeared from the repertoire with the last try in Auckland in November, and was replaced by “Thru And Thru” instead. This version adds a Keith corner to further enrich the content, and there is no need to make any changes to the sound quality this time either (obviously). Therefore, the impression of a cheerful theater gig from 2002 that can be listened to quickly on one CD remains the same. Only audience recordings were available in real time, and various official releases were also released in small quantities, so it was a very fresh surprise to see the Stones giving such a hot performance at the Wiltern in 2002. Therefore, the word “minor change” fits perfectly with this second edition, but the three-fold item of good performance, good mix as a live album, and easy listening on a single CD is too attractive.
