Description

The second day of the Rolling Stones’ latest tour at SoFi Stadium was also released at the same time. The base audience recording was made with a different taper from the first day. Again, several sound sources appeared, but the version by a person calling himself DAN was the best. Although it does not reach the powerful sound image from the PIT on the first day, the balance of Mick’s singing voice, while maintaining a moderate sense of distance, is reminiscent of the highly acclaimed “ST. LOUIS 2021”. Moreover, the balance of the entire performance is very exquisite and fully qualified. The balance of the moderate distance and the echoes contained in the sound emitted from the venue is exquisite, and you will be able to feel the unique comfort of this sound source, especially if you listen to it with headphones. Although some of the surrounding chatter is picked up, or there are occasional scenes in the first half of the live performance where the sound fluctuates, it is not at a level that causes serious stress (at all!), and the balance of the cheers of the stadium coming from the back throughout the whole performance also seems to contribute to the unique ease of listening. After all, the audience cheered when Mick told them that it had been 60 years since the fateful day when Mick and Keith reunited at the Dartford station. Perhaps the two of them were savoring the fact that 60 years had passed since that encounter that became the source of the Rolling Stones, who continue to perform live even after losing Charlie. Instead of the runaway momentum of the first day, it was impressive to see them savoring each song. Therefore, the selection of two ballads, “Beast of Burden,” which is the first appearance of this tour, and “Wild Horses,” which has not been performed since St. Louis, was perfect for this day. Both songs were carefully backed up by Steve’s drumming and the careful performance of the three front members. The excitement centered on the solo played by Ronnie in “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” was also truly impressive, and this could be called a great performance that is typical of this day. The reprise at the ending, which had already shown a flash of inspiration on the first day in LA, is finally evolving into an exciting development. Of course, Steve also joins in the performance that started again with Mick’s encouragement, which is very thrilling. “Connection”, which brought a new axis to Keith Corner, seems to have become a repertoire that represents Steve’s participation, and here Keith also seems to be relaxed and introduces the song with Steve’s continuing intro in the background. At the time of writing this, it has been played every day from Nashville, and it seems to have become a completely regular repertoire. And on this day, “Midnight Rambler”, which was not quite complete on the first day in LA, was wonderful. It was Mick who inspired Steve, who had not yet been able to influence the development of the song. The Robert Johnson number that he hums a verse of in the middle has often been “Come On In My Kitchen” in recent years, but on this day he starts singing “Hellhound On My Trail”, which does not appear often, and increases the tension. The effect was so great that Steve hit a series of intense hits like a different person from the first day. The Stones’ latest two days in LA perfectly fit the analogy of “the second day of stillness” in contrast to the “first day of motion”. Even after losing Charlie, they have gained a new catalyst in Steve, and their stage is still moving forward. This audience album shows that they are finally at full throttle, and are giving us a live performance with different expressions depending on the day. Please enjoy both days!
