Description
This is a superb high quality soundboard recording of a wonderful live performance at the Cotati Cabaret in 1983, featuring twin keyboards by Kei Akagi, who later joined the Miles Davis Group, and Brazil’s Marcos Silva. The album starts with a jazzy instrumental number, with a unique and transcendent rhythm that draws you in right from the start, and the keyboard entanglement of Kei Akagi and Silva is so cool. Then, Airto’s wife, the songstress Flora, appears, and the album continues with cheerful numbers such as the classic “Light as a Feather” from Return to Forever, which has a refreshing Brazilian breeze, and the popular and tight, funky representative song “Open Your Eyes You Can Fly” from his solo work. After Airto’s solo with various percussion, the album ends with the masterpiece “Tombo”, which is the pinnacle of Brazilian fusion and has a vivid and super complex rhythm. The 75 minutes fly by!
