Description

Queen’s live archives are still full of new discoveries. The latest excavated recording of the “SHEER HEART ATTACK Tour” is now available on CD! This work is recorded on the “February 24, 1975 Washington performance”. This is the first audience recording. The “SHEER HEART ATTACK” era was a time when activities aimed at global expansion were suddenly in full swing, and recordings were also greatly enhanced. First of all, let’s look back on the schedule at that time and imagine the position of this work. 1974 October 30th – November 20th: UK (19 shows) ← * Official 《SHEER HEART ATTACK released on November 8th》 ・ November 23rd – December 13th: Europe (11 shows) 1975 February 5th – 24th: North America #1 (19 shows) ← ★ Here ★ ・ March 5th – April 6th: North America #2 (21 shows) ・ April 19th – May 1st: First visit to Japan (8 shows) This is the whole picture of the “SHEER HEART ATTACK Tour”. The most famous is the official “LIVE AT THE RAINBOW ’74”, but the invasion of the US across the ocean began in 1975. The Washington performance of this work was in the middle of that “North America #1”. Various recordings have been excavated from the two parts “North America #1-2”. We have introduced it as a masterpiece live album in our shop so far. This is a good opportunity to zoom in on the North American tour dates and organize the collection. February 5-14: North America #1 (7 shows) February 15 “BOSTON 1975 LATE SHOW” February 16: New York performance (early show) February 16 “NEW YORK 1975 (late show)” February 17-23: North America #1 (5 shows) February 24: Washington performance ←★ This work ★ – 8 days off – March 5 + 6: North America #2 (2 shows) March 7 “MILWAUKEE 1975” March 8-29: North America #2 (13 shows) March 29 “THE ROYAL AMERICAN TOUR 1975 (late show)” April 2-April 6: North America #2 (3 shows) These are the details of “North America #1-2”. The show is divided into two parts with about a week off in between, but the Washington performance was the concert on the “final day of the first half”. This work recorded at such a show is a newly discovered audience that is refreshing with its freshness. It is a vintage audience, not a type that can be mistaken for a sound board or compete for the No. 1 tour. However, the master freshness with almost no dubbing marks or aging deterioration is exquisite and full of listening pleasure. What is most wonderful is the powerful and thick core. Although the audience sense is solid in terms of tone, it does not become a sense of distance, and the details are clear. The strong rushing force makes the extremely thick core reach as if it were breaking through the hall sound. The peak is distorted because it is too powerful, but it is a direct recording that makes you feel the four people “in front of you”. Such a powerful sound is drawn from the “SHEER HEART ATTACK Tour” … No, maybe it was a full show that may have been a turning point in Freddie’s vocalist life. The key point here is that it was “just before the break.” This break was not just a break, but a doctor’s order. In fact, Freddie had a throat problem at the Philadelphia concert the day before this album. He was examined by a doctor and found to have a nodule. Although the doctor told him to “refrain from speaking for about three months,” Freddie, not wanting to disappoint his fans, went ahead with the Washington concert (this album) the next day. After the show, he got a second and third opinion and decided to take a break from the tour, and to take eight days off. Given the circumstances, you might think that this live performance would be very painful… but it was not! Freddie’s singing voice did not have the slightest hint of illness, and he did not seem to be hoarse or in pain. In terms of growth, there were other great shows, so it’s hard to say that this is the best of the tour, but the strength, solid density, and unwavering stability all feel quite good. Was he trying to deny the doctor’s diagnosis by force? His performance was so passionate that it even made one suspect that he was doing so. QUEEN-specialized sites around the world have praised him as “the best show” and “one of the greatest live shows they have ever performed.” In the end, the second and third opinions said that it was just swelling and he should take two weeks off, but he returned to the tour in half that time. He ran through the tour until his first visit to Japan. In fact, the initial diagnosis of “nodule” was correct, and Freddie’s condition recurred for several years after that. He was also recommended surgery, but he continued to refuse it for fear that he would not be able to regain his voice. What would have happened if he had followed the first doctor’s advice and canceled the Washington performance (this work) and taken a three-month break? Although it is forbidden to say “what if” in history, the passionate singing in this work has the possibility that it may have changed Freddie’s life and music history after that. The more you listen to it and think about it, the more you feel awe at the show. This is an amazing new excavated live album that allows you to experience the scene. This is the first audience recording of the “Washington concert on February 24, 1975”. The powerful and thick core is wonderful, and the strong rushing force breaks through the hall sound. There is no sense of distance, and the details are clear. It is a powerful sound that makes you feel like the four are “in front of you”. Freddie, who felt a problem with his throat the day before, stopped the tour after the show, but it was incredibly impressive.
