Description

The Christmas concert on December 24, 1975 was recorded in the highest quality professional shot video. This is the final version (originally released in 2010) recorded with the highest grade quality that sweeps away all previous releases in both image quality and sound quality. Including the BBC rebroadcast take, the rebroadcast versions of each country, and the OGWT broadcast master take with the two familiar time codes from the past, all of these best quality takes have been skillfully edited to create the longest and best version. Each uses a carefully selected high-quality master, and the unified visual beauty with high-quality image quality is more than enough even when reviewed five years after the original release. (I compared it with the Japanese rebroadcast version, but the image quality is even better.) The recording time is 73 minutes and 36 seconds. The first minute and 20 seconds is the intro by host Bob Harris, which was broadcast on the BBC at the time of the original release (the actual recording was in October 2009 * you can see the sign for the Mott The Hoople reunion in front of Hammersmith), and from there it is the main part, from the opening of OGWT to Bob’s band introduction to the silhouettes of the members that were cut from the Japanese rebroadcast, to the main part of the live performance, and the ending of the rock and roll medley Jailhouse Rock. There are no annoying time codes or disappointing program logos. As mentioned above, the intention of the producer was to create the best one from the multiple versions that exist, but another intention was to go one step further and create a version that would allow viewers to enjoy the live broadcast on Christmas Day, 1975. In the rebroadcast, the beginning of the drum solo in the middle of Now I’m Here, and the first bass solo of Bring Back That by Leroy Brown, were edited to conform to the original, even though the camera switch was not in time and the screen went dark (the rebroadcast version repeats and inserts the scene immediately after that). The rebroadcast version partially cut the last chorus of Keep Yourself Alive, which was a very creepy version, but this version is recorded as it is in the original. At the last chorus, when the key changes, the original version hastily returns to a close-up of Brian in a scene where the members of Red Light are not visible, and the rebroadcast version cuts this part. ) After the ending of Jailhouse Rock, Seven Seas Of Rhye, See What A Fool I’ve Been, and God Save The Queen, which were broadcast on FM radio, are added to create a pseudo-complete version, which can be said to be a groundbreaking attempt for the DVD format. Since there is no video for these three songs, images full of love, text explaining the situation on the day, and videos of the songs performed are inserted. (For God Save The Queen, the scene where the end credits flow at the end of Jailhouse Rock is reused.) The audio is a mix of the original TV sound and two radio sound sources, so the natural, spacious, and not so equalized sound is excellent, with a great sense of style and freshness! Freddie and Brian had colds on the day, but as far as this live footage is concerned, there are almost no scenes that make you feel unwell, and the beautifully controlled live performance that is typical of this time is simply overwhelming, and you can enjoy a live performance that is both worth watching and listening to throughout the entire film. Freddie made some mistakes, such as the timing being off at the beginning of the vocals in The March Of The Black Queen and the end part of Liar, but the high range was also well-produced, so you can enjoy the concert comfortably. The magnesium effect on the stage following “Thank you, Merry Christmas everybody” at the end of In The Lap Of The Gods…Revisited is also captured in a powerful picture, and everyone will be captivated by Freddie’s lustrous kimono appearance in the rock and roll medley. As an item that recorded Queen’s early live performances, this is the definitive version of “Christmas Live” that cannot be beat in every sense. This is a must-have video title for fans that records the definitive footage of this period, which recorded Queen’s best time, in the best quality.
