Description

The latest live recording of Dylan’s 2021 performance, released at the same time, was in Philadelphia on November 30th, at the end of the tour. On the third day of the tour in Ohio, the encore changed to a performance of only one song, “Every Grain of Sand,” which was also a long-awaited live performance, and the tour continued with the same configuration until the end. There are many noteworthy and fresh points about this tour, but the set list is a familiar composition in which old songs and recent works are performed almost alternately. The only remnants of the traditional repertoire are “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and “Gotta Serve Somebody.” Instead, this time, not only the aforementioned “Every Grain of Sand” but also other classic songs from the past are set in. There are nice performances that make use of the image of the original song, such as “Most Likely You GoYour Way (And I’ll Go Mine),” and the variety of arrangements, such as the almost hard rock version of “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight,” are proof that Dylan is still enthusiastic about live activities. And “Every Grain of Sand”, which has returned to the repertoire after a long time, is a wonderful performance with a waltz-like arrangement. It is certainly fresher and more stage-worthy than “It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry” and other songs that were performed in Milwaukee. Dylan’s unexpected talkativeness, which has been a hot topic on this tour, escalates even further as the tour comes to an end. Before the encore, he not only introduces the band members, but also mentions the Philadelphia specialty “cheesesteak”, laughing and saying “It’s delicious, isn’t it?” He even goes so far as to say, “When you think of Philadelphia, you think of the Liberty Bell, right?” I was surprised by his talkative behavior, which I hadn’t seen on stage for decades. He must be happy to return to the stage. At the same time, a large number of numbers from the album “ROUGH AND RAWDY WAYS” released last year were introduced, and they looked amazing on stage. Among them, “False Prophet” was the highlight of the first half of the live performance and a wonderful performance was also shown in Milwaukee, but on this day, Dylan’s careful singing of “Key West (Philosopher Pirate)” and “Goodbye Jimmy Reed” was also excellent. Dylan, 80 years old, is singing so energetically that it is hard to believe that it is the end of the tour that he resumed after two years, and compared to Milwaukee, where he was high-tension like the first day of the tour, he does not feel tired at all, and it is surprising that he easily performed a high-quality performance throughout the tour. In addition, the quality of the audience recording is also superb. The extremely clear and on sound image conveys Dylan’s lively singing in detail, and the band’s wonderful performance, which was breathed fresh air with the addition of Charlie Drayton, is also amazing. This audience album captures the final part of Dylan’s latest tour, in which he shows off his active career at the age of 80, with the best sound quality!
