Description

Introducing a noteworthy item that will remain in the history of Floyd sound sources. Recorded directly from the longest original tape master of the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium performance on March 6, 1972, the first day of the second Japan tour. This is a piece that will shock Floyd fans around the world. The sound source itself is familiar from the past (same sound source as “ECLIPSE OF THE SUN”), but the tape generation is younger than what has been on the market so far, and the sound quality is the best. Unlike previous releases, the tape reversal part is the take with the least amount of cuts, and at the same time it is the longest recorded take compared to previous takes. The cassette used is a dubbing tape branched from the master, and you will be surprised at the beginning, but the intro part is recorded more than a minute longer than the previously released “ECLIPSE OF THE SUN”. In the track name, I wrote “Introduction”, but here, before the performance, the noise and conversation in the venue was recorded for 45 seconds while the SE was playing. (A voice saying “What number, everyone?” is loudly recorded.) This part is the first appearance of Boot. The recorder pressed pause at the 45th second, “because he didn’t know when the live performance would start,” and started recording again with “Speak To Me.” The next 18 seconds are also unrecorded, and right after the rumbling noise, you can hear a conversation saying “The person in front of me…”, but all the previously released episodes are recorded from here. In other words, the first minute before this, which was recorded on the original tape, appeared for the first time. However, unfortunately, this Gene Waka tape has tape deterioration mainly on the right channel, and the sound quality from the beginning to Us And Them is inferior to the previous releases. In particular, the shaking of the sound image due to tape deterioration up to about 1 minute and 40 seconds of Us And Them is a disappointing part. However, the great thing about this tape is that after Any Color You Like, the tape condition improves, and at the same time the sound quality becomes brighter, and surprisingly, in the second half, it transforms into a very beautiful high-quality sound that surpasses the previous releases. It is. In particular, the sound quality of Disc 2, where the tape is in good condition, is outstanding, and I don’t think anyone has ever heard the Tokyo first day take with such good sound. Anyway, it’s clear and natural, with little hiss. This will shock fans around the world. Here, I would like to write down the advantages and disadvantages in an easy-to-understand manner. ●Superior points 1. The beginning is recorded for more than a minute. 2. Mr. Goro Itoi’s MC part after the end of the first part is connected without cutting after Eclipse ends. (Originally, this MC was performed after the end of Part 1, so the correct recording location is the last of Disk 1.) 3. The cut that has already been made is immediately after Roger’s “Thank you” after the end of One Of These Days. However, that part is connected without being cut. (6 seconds longer) 4. After Any Color You Like, which has no tape deterioration, it has been recorded with higher sound quality than the previous releases. 5. The cheering section at the end of disc 2 is also a few seconds long. ●Poor points 1. There is a tape change cut at 0:07 of Us And Them. (It does not cut out in the previous releases.) 2. There is tape deterioration in the right channel up to Us And Them, and the sound quality is poor. To summarize, the tapes unearthed this time are: “Although it is the same sound source as the previously released one, the generation is good and there are some parts that have been recorded for a long time, but the weak point is that there is a problem of tape deterioration in the first half. The second half, when the condition is stable, has been recorded with a higher sound quality than the previous recordings, and many parts appear for the first time, so it can be considered an important take that is definitely worth listening to. Although there are weaknesses, it is the emergence of a new super important take that will remain in the history of Floyd sound sources. Due to some problems, it was not possible to make it into a straight CD press, but this is a must-have for Floyd sound source collectors. This is surprising since the beginning of 2016! !
