Description
Introducing “Rarities,” a 2-disc set of rare and upgraded Pink Floyd recordings that first appeared on the Internet in recent years. First of all, “See Emily Play” on Disc 1 is an acetate disc sound source with a different mix from the official release, with the guitar overdubbed at the ending familiar from old rare compilation discs, etc. I used the upgrade source that appeared. Furthermore, scratch noise has been carefully removed and the pitch has been precisely adjusted. At this time, we have recorded what can be said to be the best sound quality. The following 3rd to 7th tracks are a collection of outtakes from “Ummagumma.” It can be said to be the highlight of Disc 1 of this edition. What is most surprising is that the live version of “Interstellar Overdrive” (performed at Manchester College of Commerce), which was officially excluded due to recording time, can be heard on an uncut high-quality sound board. As it was intended for an official release, it is a well-balanced stereo mix, and it can be said that the quality is comparable to the live sound source recorded on the official release. Rough mix versions of the officially recorded songs are also included here. “Astronomy Domine” and “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” have slightly different mixes from the released version, “Careful With That Ax, Eugene” has a longer intro and no Roger vocals, and “A Saucerful Of Secrets” The released version was a mix of the Birmingham performance and Manchester performance, but this one includes the performance at Birmingham Mother’s Club without editing. Tracks 8-10 include outtakes from the Zabriskie Point sessions. We use the master tape sound source that was the basis for TMOQ’s masterpiece “Omayyad”. Although this is a sound source that has already been included in the complete album of Zabriskie Point session sound sources produced by overseas fans, “A Total Zabriskie Point Of View: The Complete Collection,” the source before remastering is included here. The sound quality is natural before the hiss is removed, and the end of the fade-out in “Oenone” and “Fingal’s Cave” is slightly cut off, so it was edited in “A TOTAL~”, but here it is in its state before editing. It is recorded as is. Next, Disc 2 first recorded the 8-track tape version of “Pigs On The Wing”, which is the highest quality source among the currently available sound sources. This long version itself has already been released on CD as it was included in Snowy White’s compilation album “Groups & Sessions ’74?’94” released in 1995, but it was remixed and included there. The original mix version can only be heard on this 8-track tape audio source. There is no doubt that the original mix version recorded here will be the definitive version. Tracks 2, 5, 8, 10, 13, and 14 include single and promo versions that have not been officially released on CD. There are familiar songs such as “Not Now John” with replaced lyrics, but “Young Lust” is particularly rare. This is included on the B-side of the single “Another Brick In The Wall Part 2” released in Italy, and can only be heard on the erroneous version, which was accidentally recorded due to a mix-up of masters ( (The jacket and label say “One Of My Turns”). Tracks 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, and 12 are fan mix sound sources produced by overseas fans cut out from the 5.1ch audio of the movie “The Wall” DVD. There is no doubt that those who have listened to “The Wall” will find new discoveries with this sound source, such as clearly hearing sounds that could not be heard on the original album version and the lack of vocals. Tracks 15 to 17 are outtakes from “A Momentary Lapse Of Reason,” and tracks 18 to 23 are outtakes from “The Division Bell.” The most notable sound source in particular is the complete debut instrumental song with an unknown title, written as “Untitled #1”, which includes two different arrangements. The early version of track 18 starts with an intro that sounds like the live version of “Astronomy Domine”, and even those who don’t like the late Floyd will probably react with an “oh!” reaction. Furthermore, another version of track 23 has a completely different atmosphere, with a stronger Gilmore-like arrangement reminiscent of “Run Like Hell” and “Another Brick In The Wall Part 3.” As a title to conclude Pink Floyd’s 2013, it is a compilation album with a very wonderful content, so please enjoy it.
