Description
This is a sequel to the highly acclaimed “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON DOCUMENTARY”. A masterpiece documentary featuring the great album “Fire: I want you to be here” will be released. This work is a TV special “THE STORY OF WISH YOU WERE HERE” produced in the UK. This program was made into an official DVD in 2012, but this work was aired on a certain satellite broadcasting station in September 2010, two years before that. This is a DVD version of the Japanese broadcast version, complete with Japanese subtitles, which is important for documentaries. The content is truly a masterpiece. As with the previous “Madness” documentary, people directly involved in the production of the album, including members, producers, designers, and photographers, appear, as well as managers and journalists. We will recreate the scene where the album is completed with real comments. The album covers the early days when he was crushed by the huge success of “Crazy” and fell into lethargy, the devastation of the premiere of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, how he was able to move forward after discovering the theme “absence”, etc. The stages of creating something are explained in words that are filled with real feelings. Moreover, in the case of this work, it is not just the facts. Members, managers, and other people who knew Sid in the early days speak volumes about Sid’s personality, compliments, and even his true feelings that are difficult to express, giving weight and real feeling to the facts we knew up until now. For example, in the episode where Sid visited the studio during the production of “Flame”. This fact itself is well known, and I have seen it written many times that “Roger was so shocked that he broke down in tears.” However, in this work, the situation is all too real. “David said, ‘Do you know who that is?'” “But I had no idea who it was…” Nick paused, adding, “Everyone was shocked and someone called out to him. “I was waiting for this,” he wrote of the scene where time stood still. Gilmore agreed, saying, “It’s strange that the atmosphere lasted so long,” and “He was thin and elegant, and at times slovenly and absent-minded…that’s the kind of person he was.” There are also photos of Sid who has completely changed, but the tone of voice and facial expressions of the members and those involved talking about the scene are just so heavy and real. A sense of reality is engraved in your mind, which is different from just knowing the facts. Of course, this work is not a tear-jerking drama that blindly depicts a heartbreaking episode, but a documentary that reveals the hidden side of a masterpiece. It is also full of interesting anecdotes from the production process. Particularly interesting is the scene with engineer Brian Humphries. Just like in the previous work “Madness”, he will play real multi-tracks and explain while actually fiddling with the console. For example, “Have a Cigar”. Initially, Gilmour and Roger tried singing the song, but it didn’t quite work, so Roy Harper was hired, but they played the take recorded at the time, and as if to say, “This is Dave.” (song)” and “This is Roger.” Even with Roy’s take, valuable takes (albeit partially) will be shown one after another, such as an a cappella version without any backing and an unreleased version. Unfortunately, “HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS” is rarely mentioned, but there is also a story where the sound of a wine glass is used as the intro to “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.” In addition to the music, there is also plenty of information on album jackets, animations, etc. Designers Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Poe Powell, photographer Jill Furmanowski, and illustrator Gerald Scarf will also appear to talk about the scenes where many of the artworks were created. There are many interesting stories, such as Mickey Mouse being addicted to drugs, the meaning behind avant-garde animation, a story about submerging a model in water, and how black wrapping means “absence.” A particular masterpiece is Ronnie Rondell, the man on fire in that jacket. He was a stuntman, and while looking back on those days, he said, “I had no problem” and “It was an easy victory,” but he also revealed that he turned into a fireball at the end of filming, adding, “Next time, even if I had them draw fire, I wouldn’t be able to do it.” I don’t mind,” he said. It’s so much fun to not only get to know the scene where the Japanese title “Flame” came from, but also to see the person himself. There are plenty of people involved that you don’t get to see very often, but the best part is the scenes with the members themselves. Rick, who was deceased at the time of the show’s production, also appeared in an archival interview in 2001, in which all four spoke volumes. In particular, Roger and Gilmore responded to the interview with an acoustic guitar in hand, and they also performed live music on the spot in line with the content. Is “Wish You Were Here” particularly wonderful? Roger says, “Collaborating with David was very good,” and plays the song, which intersects with Gilmore’s singing scene. 24 years have passed since “Wish You Were Here”, and the highlight that connects with that “LIVE 8” reunion scene is truly moving. The film ends with the captions “Syd Barrett passed away in 2006 at the age of 60” and “Richard Wright passed away in 2008 at the age of 65.” “Flame: I Want You to Be Here” is not only an excellent music album, but also an album that runs through their lives and careers…It is a video work that makes you realize that. There will be additional interviews on the later official DVD, so it will be a collector’s item for those who own the official version, but those watching it for the first time will be impressed by the level of perfection that is on a different level than most documentaries. Probably. A masterpiece of music documentary, comparable to the “Madness” edition. Broadcast Date: 13th September 2010(59:25) 1. Intro 2. Syd Barrett 3. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 4.
