Description
If you consider yourself a Floyd collector, here is a must-have title. This is the title of the final set of the London Festival Hall performance on April 14, 1969, all recorded by a venerable master. The first half of The Man part is a take that was transcribed from a 2nd Gen cassette tape that was copied from a cassette recorded by a taper on a Dictaphone type (a dictation recording and playback device for shorthand) at the time (Recorder 1). The second half of The Journey is a take that was transcribed from a 2nd Gen tape from a reel tape recorded by a different taper (Recorder 2). Both are raw transter versions from the tape (Maxell XLII) of “Jon R.”, who is currently considered to be the youngest of the Gen. The Man is a direct dub from the master, and The Journey is a 2nd Gen that was dubbed from a cassette copy from a reel. Although it contains hiss noise, the vintage sound that feels just like the master itself is wonderful, and of course, it is for enthusiasts, but it is very valuable both historically and as a document. You can experience the original sound without the equalization and correction that you heard on the previous board. The rock opera “The Man” and “The Journey” were performed only a few times from 1969 to early 1970. This is a must-have for fans, recording the legendary premiere of this rock opera in London with the best sound ever. What’s even more surprising is the approximately 25-minute rehearsal take recorded on the third disc. It was previously released under the title “REHEARSALS AT ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL 1969”, and contains an upgraded version of the black-and-white pro shot footage that is familiar to fans. Compared to the previous release, the low generation is obvious, and this time it is recorded in high quality that seems to be the master itself, with no dubbing marks at all. The difference in the screen is immediately obvious, so if you have the opportunity to compare it with an existing release, you will be amazed at the clear difference. This one alone is worth acquiring! The original is 16mm film, and Anthony Stern, who owns the film, put it on VHS tape and then converted it into a DVDR. This album contains a detailed record of the very valuable rehearsal and sound check at the time, which only those involved could see, with a single camera providing a wonderful close-up video, making it a first-class document item for learning about Floyd’s stage performance in 1969. The album starts with the bluesy Biding My Time. Everyone’s eyes are glued to the close-up video of Roger and Gilmour playing Green Is The Colour on acoustic guitar. At the end, Roger switches to the bass and enters the intro of Eugne. The backing for this part is done on the piano. After the instrumental part in the middle of Cymbaline, the band meets with Roger at the center. Don’t miss the scene where Nick plays the drums to Roger’s early rhythm machine. The silent footage from the audience shows Roger playing the xylophone. The highlight is the scene where Rick plays the end theme of “Mystery” on the pipe organ installed in the venue, and the scene where the camera shows the instruments and equipment on stage with the organ improvisation in the background is very valuable as a historical document. This time, not only has the video been upgraded, but the audio has also been carefully corrected for noise and other problems, and the best version of this work has been achieved, including moderate equalization. Original menu included. The youngest version of the take recorded at the Royal Festival Hall in London on April 14, 1969, and the upgraded version of the rehearsal footage.
