Description

GLAND SLAM began performing live in various parts of the UK from the end of May 1984, and performed many shows for half a year until their final live performance on December 7th in Walthamstow, London. On October 12th, towards the end of the tour, the performance at the “Kerrang! Weekender Festival” held in Great Yarmouth was recorded for broadcast, and several different sound sources with different masters have appeared as collector’s items. Among them, “MILITARY MAN” has been recognized by fans as a standard of that day as the best take. The sound source that will be released this time is the complete version of that day, which will be released for the first time. This work, which can be enjoyed to the fullest with the highest quality sound until the second half of the live, which could not be heard even on the aforementioned standard “MILITARY MAN”, is a literally exceptional one that you can’t believe is a bonus disc! The live performance starting with “Yellow Pearl” has a very different set list from the Lifford performance. Numbers such as “Sisters Of Mercy” and “Harlem”, which were not heard there, are must-listen parts, and the balance, separation, and visibility are of such amazing quality that it would not be surprising if they were officially released, allowing the listener to immerse themselves in the performance without stress. “Military Man”, which was officially recorded on Gary Moore’s “RUN FOR COVER”, is the original GLAND SLAM version. This is a heavier arrangement, and it is a serious take that you will not forget once you hear it. The previous releases were up to “Cold Sweat” in the middle of the show, but this sound source allows you to enjoy the first appearance parts after this with outstanding sound quality. The wonderful contrast between the melodic “Dedication” and the dynamic “Crazy” will captivate you at the moment you hear it, even if you are not familiar with Phil’s music! The warmth of “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” that only Phil can create and the strength of “Like A Rolling Stone” will close the show with a lingering impression that is beyond words. GLAND SLAM, who finished their tour two months after this show, ended up disbanding the following year in 1985 without ever getting a record contract, bringing an end to their short career. GLAND SLAM’s recordings are certainly not as major as THIN LIZZY’s, but the music and style of the band, which boldly incorporates sounds that Phil could no longer create in LIZZY, such as danceable beats, new wave elements, and urban and moody atmospheres, are full of unique charm backed by his wide musical background. Now that 25 years have passed since Phil’s death, it’s time to listen to the sound he really wanted to express at the time. This work, along with the “IRISH SHADE” from the Liford performance, is a must-have and must-listen superb recording for fans!
