Description

The first half of Bob Dylan’s 1978 world tour was capped off by a summer festival called “Picnic At Blackbushe” at Blackbushe Aerodrome in Surrey, England. Dylan was the final act of the festival, and the opening act was Clapton, who is from Surrey, making it a very luxurious event. Above all, there were multiple audience recordings on this day, as a large audience was gathered in a vast venue. And yet, all of them have good sound quality. Among them, there are probably many enthusiasts who have listened to the record of a unique day in 1978 on the nostalgic WANTED MAN MUSIC’s “BLACKBUSHE”. However, although the audience recording used for “BLACKBUSHE” was basically clear sound quality, it also captured the phenomenon unique to festivals, such as the noisy surroundings. For example, when “Gates Of Eden” began, the sound of a spectator near the taper spilling beer was even included. Ten years later, based on the sound source that spread among traders, “BLACKBUSHE CITY LIMITS” was released by a label called “UK Scorpio”, this time using a rough sound source, and the evaluation was not so good. Furthermore, in recent years, a new sound source was unearthed, which was recorded in an environment that avoided the surrounding noise well, and the sound quality was very clear, so it is an audience recording with all good things, and this version is what is currently heard on YouTube… It has become a standard. However, the wholesaler does not sell it so well. When this version was distributed, it was remastered by “Captain Acid” of all things. It is true that the clarity has increased, and it was a sound source that was suitable for him, but as expected, it has a hard finish like “Captain Acid”. This time, we have obtained the natural master before “Captain Acid” was touched! This alone is sure to be good news for Dylan maniacs around the world, but since we have obtained the original sound source, we thoroughly adjusted the high pitch while respecting the natural original sound quality. Once again, the sound quality is very clear, and at the same time, it seems inevitable that this album should be released without any exaggeration. The main sound source minimizes the noise that is typical of festivals, and yet captures Dylan and his band’s performance with a very clear and on-the-fly sound image, which is a big deal. Moreover, compared to the previous “Captain Acid” remaster, the difference is clear. The sound of Ian Wallace’s cymbal strikes in the opening instrumental “My Back Pages” is suddenly natural. After all, since this was the day to close the festival, Dylan also thought up a special set list and performed a longer stage than usual, and this was the only day during the 1978 tour that he actually had a corner where even the band members sang. Helena Springs covered the R&B classic “Change Is Gonna Come,” and Jo Ann Harris covered “The Long and Winding Road” because it was Beatles country. Also, Steven Soles, a member who continued from Rolling Thunder Revue, performed his own original song “Laissez-Faire”. Among them, Helena Springs was the odd one out. He sang “Mr. Tambourine Man” instead of Dylan, which was an unexpected pattern. However, rather than being stunned, the audience was excited, which was interesting. The irregular content was also a big attraction of Blackbush, but Dylan is Dylan, and he is irregular in many ways, so you can finish listening to the three discs in no time. First, “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” was performed for the first time on the tour. This is just the beginning, and Dylan’s unreasonableness explodes even more. The member introductions that should usually be done during the intro of “It’s Alright, Ma” were normally done before the song started on this day only. Furthermore, they did not play “Going, Going, Gone”, which was performed every night instead of giving each member a corner. The highlight was when Dylan tried to play the new song “Where Are You Tonight?”, but he mistook it for the similar tune “Like A Rolling Stone” (even though he had just played it a few songs earlier), and there were not only rare performances but also interesting happenings everywhere. And up until now, Clapton’s stage has been released many times, including Beano’s masterpiece “BLACKBUSHE 1978 REVISITED”, but Dylan’s stage has also been released. Even if it wasn’t, it was a day when the best renewal was long awaited, and the well-known clear sound quality was firmly sealed on CD after thoroughly brushing up the exclusive natural master.
