Description
After the overwhelmingly exciting April Japan tour, Paul started his European tour in May and successfully finished in Paris in June. The first half of this tour was mainly in Paul’s home country, the UK, which has been a hot topic. In fact, this is the first time Paul has toured the UK since 2012, and in 2013 he only made media appearances and surprise gigs after the release of his new album, and in 2014, Paul’s poor health caused the schedule to be rearranged and the tour did not take place. In fact, just like Japanese fans, it was British fans who were waiting for another tour. So, this European tour began with two performances at the O2 Arena in London, as if to meet the demands of British fans who had been kept waiting. This time, the taper was successfully recorded on the first day and even on the second day of the O2 Arena performance. However, the audience recording on this day turned out to be a surprisingly quiet sound image among the UK tour sound sources released by our shop this time. Although Taper himself was able to record from the front of the arena, the sound image was surprisingly distant… That’s how the sound source for that day was sent. It’s true that the sound image of this day’s recording was far away, which may be a weak point compared to the other sound sources this time. However, fortunately, the balance and clarity improved gradually, and from around “Temporary Secretary”, which was the second live performance on this day, the sound quality suddenly evolved into a clearer sound quality. Also, as for “Temporary ~” on this day, Paul himself must have been nervous, but he managed to successfully perform his first live performance on the first day, and here you can see that he is singing techno numbers with more confidence. The addition of this song to the beginning of the set list has also resulted in a groundbreaking result in the appearance of past repertoires different from both the Beatles and Wings. As I mentioned earlier, the sound quality on this day was a bit quiet, but the most attractive set list of the day more than made up for it. To be frank, the composition fully reflects the results of the Budokan. We can’t help but feel proud about that. Not only “Another Girl” in the encore, but also “Got to Get You Into My Life” appeared in the part where they played Beatles numbers at the beginning of the live, and since then it has been played frequently throughout the European tour. It can be said that this is a result of the great response of these songs at the Budokan. However, it is true that rare repertoire was played other than these, as expected of a British performance. I feel envious of that. First of all, the acoustic corner opened with “I’m Looking Through You” for the first time in a long time, instead of the usual “I’ve Just Seen A Face”! I wish they had played this in Japan too… I’m so envious. Furthermore, they played “Ram On”, a standard repertoire at the sound check party, at the actual performance. These surprises clearly showed the rich selection of songs unique to the British performance, which was different from the Budokan. Well, from a maniac’s point of view, the set list of this day is really attractive. In particular, the ukulele song “Ram On” played in a set with “Something” is simply gorgeous. Furthermore, a scene that can be said to be typical of Paul’s home country live performance appears. It is “Queenie Eye”, which is based on the games he played as a child. Perhaps because it sings about things that every British person experienced as a child, it was very popular with the audience even before the performance began. If you think about it, this was the first regular live stage in the UK that was finally held after the release of “NEW”, so there must have been many British audiences who were waiting for it. This sense of realism unique to the UK (yet the surrounding environment was calm, just like the previous day, making it a very easy-to-listen-to balance), and above all, the overwhelmingly attractive SETS ONLY stage on this day. We will release the second day of the O2 Arena, which is particularly attractive in the after-Budokan live, on a CD of our own original sound source.
