Description

This collection of unreleased songs first leaked the third version in 1981 on an LP by Richard, and then the first version around 1978 appeared under the name “ANOTHER, EARLY VERSION”. However, interestingly, the first CD version of “COLD CUTS” was not the 1981 version, but the 1978 version. In fact, the 1981 version was not dropped from the previous LP, and it took nearly 10 years to make it from the tape source to CD. That was the Pegboy album “COLD CUTS”. Therefore, in the early days of CDs, there was a strange phenomenon where the 1978 version was overflowing, but as expected, it was only made into a CD from a tape source, and the sound quality was clearly better than that LP “ANOTHER, EARLY VERSION” version. was improving. However, in the enthusiast world, the 1981 version released by Richard was extremely popular, so the upper version did not receive as much attention as expected. One of the causes may be pitch deviation. A serious problem in the early days of CDs was that unlike LPs, there were no CD players that could change the pitch. Therefore, no matter how good the content and sound quality of items that had this problem around 1990, they create a lot of stress when listening. Around 1991, CD players with variable pitch for karaoke and other purposes began to appear, but at that time it was a serious problem. Therefore, in this release, we have adjusted the pitch that was incorrect in the 1978 version released by a label called “Hot Hits Records.” This alone suddenly made it easier to listen to. Moreover, the 1978 version is in a very rough mix state, and just by listening to the opening song “Mama’s Little Girl” you can feel that the mix is completely different from the 1980 and 1981 versions. The sound is clearly not organized, which is why Paul and each member’s vocals are so vivid. Songs such as “My Carnival” are quite raw, and on top of being a rough mix, they fade out halfway. The rawness of such a rough mix was not understood at the time of its release, but I think it would be much more enjoyable to listen to it at the correct pitch. Also, since it was edited in a “temporary frame” state as of 1978, songs sung by members other than Paul, such as Linda’s “Oriental Nightfish” and Denny Lane’s “Send Me The Heart,” are featured. This is probably a major feature. “Wild Prairie”, which later became the title of Linda’s album, is much longer than the version heard there, and the full-length version, which takes a sharp turn from the pastoral atmosphere of the first half and continues endlessly in a prog style, is still only heard here. Something that isn’t there. Also, the natural and rich sound quality that is typical of the original cassette should be re-evaluated now that the pitch has been corrected. Needless to say, the sound quality is much more comfortable to listen to than the LP version, which is a big attraction. It’s a completely different album compared to “COLD CUTS 2ND & 3RD MIX,” but this is also the starting point of a collection of unreleased songs. (57:00) 1. Mama’s Little Girl 2.
