The shocking complete soundboard album “SLANE 1984 SOUNDBOARD” was released at the end of 2022 and stunned Dylan maniacs all over the world. At the end, “It Ain’t Me, Babe” was included as a bonus from the Newcastle performance three days earlier. Not only was it a song that had not been played at Slane, but it also served as a wonderful “hint” bonus, suggesting that Newcastle might be the place, but this time the release of the complete Newcastle soundboard will be realized! Originally, multi-track recording was also done on this day for “REAL LIVE”, and in fact “License To Kill” and “Tombstone Blues” were adopted for the live album, and even a rough mix of only “Mr. Tambourine Man” was leaked and saw the light of day under the title “LIFE TAKES LIVETAKES”. Although it was a multi-track, it was a rough mix and had the peculiar gene drop that is typical of leaks, so it was hard to call it excellent. However, this time, a PA-out soundboard with a completely different recording path was unearthed. As “SLANE 1984 SOUNDBOARD” proved, Dylan’s Eighties soundboard has very clear sound quality, and this time it even has a stereo feel. Thanks to this, it is very enjoyable to listen to with headphones as well as through speakers. And yet, the PA soundboard’s greatest advantage, the vividness that flows directly into the ears, is fully utilized because the sound is clear. It is a recording state that allows you to enjoy the live performance much more than the leaked multi-gene drop sound source mentioned earlier. The only regret is that the tape change overlapped with the beginning of “Every Grain Of Sand”, and although I thought about compensating for this with a different source, it turned out that the audience on the same day had also changed the tape at the same place and missed the recording. That’s what happens (laughs). And what is most surprising is the high-tension performance that Dylan and the other members performed. Thanks to the PA soundboard, it is clear to see how his and the band’s tension rises from “Jokerman” all at once. The intensity of the performance from then on was so intense that I wondered why these early performances were not included in “REAL LIVE”. There was a very easy-to-understand reason why such high-tension performances were performed from the beginning. After singing “Just Like A Woman”, Dylan said with joy that “This is the first time (on this tour) I’ve been able to perform in front of people who understand English”. If you think about it, the first day of the tour started with “VERONA 1984 1ST NIGHT”, which can be heard on UXBRIDGE’s masterpiece CD-R, and in June, we were completely touring non-English-speaking areas. In addition, in past European tours in 1978 and 1981, the first concert was held at Earl’s Court, while in 1984 the schedule was the exact opposite, with the UK as the final destination. Therefore, it is understandable that Dylan said the above words without thinking. The result of hustling in front of a large English-speaking crowd probably led to the high-tension performance on this day. In addition, the Wembley concert two days later had a strong event element, with luxurious guests and even interviews scheduled before the live performance, but the lack of such unnecessary things meant that the feeling of being able to concentrate on the performance on this day also led to a great performance. Of course, Mick Taylor also played to his heart’s content, and the impression of his playing throughout the entire live performance was outstanding. From there, he played quite hard until Santana appeared and handed over the main role to him. In addition, the stereo sound board has excellent sound, so you can enjoy this heart-warming performance at your leisure. And this time, there is a bonus track included, but this time it is “Senor (Tales Of Yankee Power)” from Grenoble, France, which was held before Newcastle. On this day, a multi-recording for “REAL LIVE” was also done, and a rough mix of “When You Gonna Wake Up” was leaked in the past, but this was also recorded from a completely unreleased PA soundboard take, and the sound quality was also wonderful and clear.
