Description
The coupling tour of the century “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” has finally been completed. Here is a spectacular video that allows you to witness the three family bands from the prog world that participated there. [Excellent footage of three families with overlapping members] This work was filmed at the “Irving performance on July 20, 2019.” This is the spectacular audience shot. This tour was performed by a total of 4 groups: YES, ASIA, John Lodge, and CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY, but this work is a 3-disc set with footage of 3 groups other than Lodge, shot by the same photographer. The photographer also attempted to visit the lodge, but it seems that he was unable to take a full photo.) We have been reporting on “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” since the beginning. They have been featured on many masterpiece live albums. Some titles included video versions, but most were digests of several songs each. Only YES was the complete version. On the other hand, this is the first video work that allows you to fully experience the YES/ASIA/ELP LEGACY of overlapping members (even though there is no lodge). Now, what kind of position is the Irving performance included in this work? First of all, let’s organize it with a panoramic view of “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR”, including past collections. ・June 12th “BETHLEHEM 2019” ・June 14th-18th (4 performances) ・June 20th “WHITE PLAINS 2019” ・June 21st-24th (3 performances) ・June 25th “LEWISTON” 2019” ・June 27th – July 18th (12 performances) ・July 20th Irving performance ←★This work★ ・July 21st – 28th (5 performances) A total of 28 performances. “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” was completed just the other day, and this work was the 23rd concert that was the final stage of it. This work, which records such a show, is a truly spectacular audience shot. The best thing about it is the great view. It’s a little far from the stage, to the left, but you can pass directly over the heads of the first-floor seats and look directly at the stage. The spectators at the scene are not the type who raise their arms, so they have a wide field of view with no obstructions. And the sense of stability is also outstanding. Judging from the position that can be seen from the opening scene, it does make use of zoom, but it’s not that bold. It doesn’t force you to get close to the subject, and since the camera work doesn’t actively zoom, you can stare at it carefully without blurring or frame-outs. Writing this way may make you think it’s a monotonous video, but that’s not the case. Originally, none of the three groups were the type of bands where the members performed flashy actions, and above all, the screen installed at the back of the stage is clearly visible, so you can see many images projected there (Greg and Keith of the past) , Wetton’s appearance is very appealing). It’s much more dynamic than zooming in on members who don’t move from a fixed position. The sound is also wonderful, commensurate with the beauty of the visuals. This is also not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, but the air is transparent, the powerful core reaches straight to your hand, and the details are clear. It is a clear sound with no obstructions, and it is a famous recording that can be used even in a live album with only audio. [Each of the three groups put on a special show] A show drawn with such quality is truly a “progressive rock festival”. It’s not just a series of family bands performing, each one is too special. First of all, CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY (Disc 1), but their point is the guest. The famous Arthur Brown is participating, and he shows off his charismatic singing voice on “Karn Evil 9”, “Knife Edge”, and “Fire”. Although you can hear it on live albums before, Arthur’s theatrical performance is important. In this work, you can watch the mysterious performance in great detail. Moreover, Arthur is improving. To be honest, at the beginning of the tour it was clearly unfamiliar and not more than a novelty, but in this work towards the end of the tour, both the song and the ensemble were completely familiar. You can fully enjoy the true value of the EL&P number reborn with the legendary singing voice. Speaking of improvements, I would say Bumblefoot from ASIA (Disc 2). His surprisingly Wetton-like deep voice has become a hot topic, but it has evolved even further as he has been given more opportunities. The blandness of tracing the melody is gone, and there is room to include detailed expressions of emotion (on the other hand, “Lucky Man” never improves… or maybe it’s just a song that doesn’t really suit him. yeah). And the rush of “Roman to Time” in the second half of the show really makes you feel strong in your grip. As previously reported, the originator Steve Howe appears here, spinning the masterpiece as it should be with a unique tone unlike anyone else. If Howe plays, there is no need for Bumblefoot to play the guitar, and he concentrates on vocals. Of course, because Bumblefoot sings, it is played in the original key, and his contribution is still tremendous. And finally, the big hit YES (disc 3). Although they don’t have any distinctive features, the set is extremely rare. A series of delicious masterpieces such as “No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed”, “Tempus Fugit”, “Going For The One”, “Onward” and “The Gates Of Delirium”. You can also see Howe’s solo “Second Initial”, which was replaced from “Clap”, and the highlight, John Lennon’s cover “Imagine”. ELP LEGACY→ASIA will feature Carl Palmer, and ASIA→YES will feature Downs, Howe, and Sherwood, three family bands.
