Description
“One of the pinnacles of British rock”…This is an outrageous piece that can be used without hesitation even with such exaggerated words. The history of British rock is filled with the names of countless great bands, but WISHBONE ASH is probably the band that makes you feel the most British. This work is a BBC live recorded on “May 25, 1972, London”, less than a month after the release of WISHBONE ASH’s eternal masterpiece “ARGUS”. This live is WISHBONE ASH’s oldest and most famous recording, and is synonymous with many bootlegs as well as being officially released as “BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT”. Until now, the pinnacle version has been “POP SPECTACULAR (Wardour-044)” released about 10 years ago. The beauty of the stereo sound is truly the ultimate, not only the sound directly generated from the finest BBC broadcast transcription disc, but also the stereo sound that surpasses the monaural official version. The impact went beyond the sea, and some musicians, including Steve Harris of IRON MAIDEN, visited to get their hands on this CD. This work is one that has surpassed the ultimate “POP SPECTACULAR”. “POP SPECTACULAR,” which is loved by musicians around the world, was created from the broadcast master, but the source of this work was digitized from Reel Master, which was even closer to the source than the master. Between the songs of the broadcast version, each track was faded and the DJ introduced the band and song, but this version does not even have that, and the processing between songs is rough. And what’s even more vivid is the sound. The dimension is different from the analog version, the rich sound is deeper, milder and thicker, and each grain of sound is more vivid. A smooth and glossy sound pours into your ears, like the finest velvet. Additionally, although the entire DJ was re-officialized in the stereo broadcast version of the deluxe edition of “ARGUS,” the sound processing such as echo that was applied at that time was unnatural. In this work, there is no such thing, and the live performance itself jumps into your ears and into your brain. “Jailbait” and “The Pilgrim,” other than the six songs for broadcast, were bonus recorded from a different master, just like “POP SPECTACULAR.” Of course, this also uses the best existing master, and the sense of discomfort is minimized with precise mastering. The owner of that sound is WISHBONE ASH. This is so wonderful. From the exquisite picking to the clear twin guitars, the seemingly simple but colorful and jazzy beat, and the vocals that are neither flashy nor super high-pitched, the harmonies are woven over and over again. The mysterious depth of the music is dry yet rich… Deep forest-like rock that can only be found in the UK. This is the ultimate. And the world of the famous album “ARGUS” unfolds with its delicious sound and performance. As it was a promotion right after the album’s release, five of the album’s seven songs were played from the beginning. Compared to the successful “LIVE DATES”, it is a slightly stiffer performance, but it is closer to the studio work “ARGUS”. It is also a live performance version of that famous album. There are several bands that give you a “purely British” feel, such as GENESIS from Peter Gabriel’s era, JETHRO TULL, and QUEEN. However, there is no other band other than WISHBONE ASH that, even without the power of lyrics, visuals, or concept, can carve into your soul, with just one note and one harmony, “Ah, this is Britain.” This is a piece that conveys the British BBC recording of the peak “ARGUS” era with unexpected master quality. This is not a “worldwide” live album, but a very “British” live album. The pinnacle of British rock will be delivered to your door this weekend.
