Description
VAN HALEN in 1976/1977, on the eve of producing the historic masterpiece “Flame no Fuse”. Introducing a 3-disc set that permanently preserves the pre-debut demo, which has been praised as the “VAN HALEN version of Decca Tapes”, in the highest quality. This work is truly the “Zero th album” that existed before “Flame no Tuse”. This is a studio album that combines two world-famous legendary demos. Let’s quickly introduce each one individually. [DISC 1: GENE SIMMONS DEMOS 1976 (10 songs)] Disc 1 of this work is a studio demo produced by Gene Simmons of KISS. It is a famous classic that has been released many times, but this work is a master that updates its highest peak. This demo is familiar from our popular work “FIRESTARTER”, but this version is bright and clear. The high-pitched sound is also amazing, and it is a completely official master. The demo, which is spelled out with its highest quality sound, is a super famous sound source that will definitely be mentioned in VAN HALEN’s success story. Gene, who fell in love with VAN HALEN who was performing at the Starwood Club, bought the investment himself and produced it.The recording was done at Village Recorder Studio in Los Angeles, and the mastering was done at Electric Ladyland in New York.・Studio” and a completely professional environment. The quality and performances are so packed that you wouldn’t believe it was a demo aimed at signing a contract with a record company, and the repertoire is the prototype of a group of masterpieces that will leave their mark on history. Let’s organize the contents here.・Fuse of Flame: On Fire/Runnin’ With The Devil・Legendary Bomber: Somebody Get Me A Doctor・1884: House Of Pain・A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH: She’s The Woman/Let’s Get Rockin’ (Original of Outta Space Song) / Big Trouble (original song by Big River) / Put Out The Lights (original song by Beats Workin) / Unreleased song: Woman In Love (same name and different song from Legendary Bomber) / Babe, Don’t Leave Me Alone…and it goes like this. Moreover, the degree of perfection is even greater than just being able to hear the original version. As mentioned above, the quality of the recording is beyond the level of a semi-professional demo, and because it was produced by Gene, it has a slightly KISS-like finish. Starting with Alex’s drums, the light and exhilarating feeling of KISS comes to the fore, and the chorus is also layered well. Eddie’s guitar doesn’t have much phaser applied to it, but double-track processing is done here and there to give it some depth, and two rhythm guitars flow from the left and right speakers. Although it is more elaborate than a so-called demo, it has a very different feel from later works. [DISC 2: THE WARNER BROTHERS DEMOS 1977 (26 songs)] Although Gene is working towards his debut, he decides to withdraw from VAN HALEN due to complaints from the KISS members who have become busy with their activities. But if there is a god who throws away, there is also a god who picks up. Shortly after, Ted Templeman, known as the producer of Van Morrison and THE DOOBIE BROTHERS, heard about them and contacted them. In order to sign a contract with Warner Brothers, which would later become the golden age, a new demo was created with Ted producing. What is included on discs 2-3 of this work is “THE WARNER BROTHERS DEMOS”. This is also a great classic that has produced many existing groups, but this work is permanently preserved with the highest peak “FIRESTARTER” master. However, this is the longest edition that also includes “Happy Trails,” which was previously not included. If you have experienced “FIRESTARTER”, you will know that the sound quality is superb, but this one can only be called official grade. The sound depicted is a treasured studio take that far surpasses Gene Demo (DISC 1) in quality and quantity. Let’s sort this out as well.・Flame Fuse: Runnin’ With The Devil/You Really Got Me/Show Your Love (original song of I’m The One)/Feel Your Love Tonight/Little Dreamer/On Fire ・Legendary Bomber: Somebody Get Me A Doctor/D.O.A./Bring On The Girls (original song of Beautiful Girls)・Dark Law: In A Simple Rhyme・Diver Down: Last Night (original song of Hang ‘Em High)/Happy Trails・1884: House Of Pain・A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH: Let’s Get Rockin’ (Original song by Outta Space) / Put Out The Lights (Original song by Beats Workin) / Big Trouble (Original song by Big River) / She’s The Woman・Unreleased song: Get The Show On The Road (partly used in Romeo Delight) / Voodoo Queen (partly used in Mean Street and Hot for Teacher) / Babe, Don’t Leave Me Alone / I Wanna Be Your Lover / Light In The Sky (Light “UP ” (different song from the Sky) / We Die Bold / Bad Women (aka. Piece of Mind) / Others: Young And Wild / Gonna Take A Lot Of Drugs (aka. Gonna Take A Lotta Drugs) …and something like this It has become. It’s really impressive that there are no different takes of the same song, which is common in demos, and all 26 takes of the song are different. What’s more, the contents are a collection of original material spanning Dave’s entire career, from “Flame Fuse” to “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH” (although there are not only songs from “Martial Law”, there are still songs from “Mean Street”) riff will appear). In the end, there are seven unreleased songs that were not officially recorded, which is almost an album’s worth. In addition to the huge number of songs, each song is special. Since there is no limit, I will summarize the points above, but the ones that require special mention are “Young And Wild” and “Gonna Take A Lot Of Drugs” at the bottom. Neither of these songs are their originals, and “Young And Wild” is a song penned by Kim Fowley and Stephen T., who are also known for discovering THE RUNAWAYS. It was unreleased at the time, but the following year, in 1978, it was recorded by Shelley Curley and included on BEAUTY’S ONLY SKIN DEEP. And “Gonna Take A Lot Of Drugs” is a joke recording. It’s just a track where Dave and Michael playfully sing along to Nicolette Larson’s “Lotta Love” in the studio. Of course it’s not playing, and you can hear Nicolette’s voice. Above is a treasure collection of 27 songs and 36 tracks. There are other home demos and unreleased live songs, but the two demos in this work are legendary studio albums that can be enjoyed with professional perfection. This is an entertainment masterpiece that is on a different level from the “research materials/reference materials” that are common in early demos. Gene Demo (DISC 1) has an interesting “KISS-flavored VAN HALEN” and Warner Demo (DISC 2-3) is a genuine “Zero th album” that began collaboration with Templeman who became the brain. A 3-disc set that permanently preserves both of them in the highest quality.
