TOTO’s latest tour that runs through the archipelago from Sendai to Fukuoka is becoming a hot topic of conversation. The latest Live in Japan is now available. It hasn’t been long since I’ve been back to Japan for about two years, but this time it’s different from before. Overcoming the passing of Mike Porcaro last year, this is a Japan tour with the release of their first album “TOTO XIV” after their reunion. Before getting into the details of the show you’re interested in, let’s first check the schedule. ・March 3: Sendai Sunplaza Hall ・March 4: Pacifico Yokohama [This work] ・March 7: Nippon Budokan ・March 9: Zepp FUKUOKA ・March 10: Hiroshima Ueno Gakuen Hall ・3 March 12th: Osaka Amashin Archaic Hall ・March 14th: Osaka Festival Hall ・March 15th: Nagoya City Public Hall In this way, this Japan tour will have a total of eight performances, including the additional performance in Osaka. Among them, this work is the audience album of the “March 4, 2016 Pacifico Yokohama” performance, which is the second day of the Japan tour. The person who recorded it was Taper, who is active mainly in Tokyo and Yokohama, and has provided many recordings to our store. This time, he recorded two performances, “Pacifico Yokohama” and “Nippon Budokan”, and the “Pacifico Yokohama” recording will be introduced as this work, and the “Nippon Budokan” recording will be introduced as “LIVE AT BUDOKAN 2016″. I did. As a master who always provides great recordings, I thought it must have a great sound, so when I played it back, it was even more amazing than usual. It is a type of recording that is “like a sound board” so to speak, and the musical tone with a thick core and extremely clear contours is beautiful. Digital recording in recent years has evolved to the point where it is beautiful and commonplace, but even with that standard, it is still at a level that is unlikely. What is particularly strong is the richness of the key sounds. You can feel the loud bass sound shaking the walls, floor, and air of Pacifico Yokohama. Some people may have felt the wind pressure from the loud bass at a concert, and that feeling is exactly what hits you from the speakers. If you listen to it with headphones, you can almost feel the wind pressure in your ears. Moreover, the bass vibe is gorgeous. Even though it’s thick and large, it doesn’t hurt your ears, and the smooth feel is pleasant. Even if it doesn’t have any meaning, it’s so soothing to your ears that you’ll want to listen to it forever, like velvet or a cat’s back that makes you want to keep patting it. Regardless of the past or present, I thought that bass sounds were an eternal problem in audience recording, but I never expected that they would be able to capture them so well… I was impressed by the amazing bass, but of course it’s not a sound filled with heavy bass. If that’s the case, we won’t press it. Even if it is a wonderfully rich bass, it is only one element that supports the ensemble, and the balance with the high quality is also neatly recorded. Apparently it was recorded from around the 10th row in front of the speakers, but the sense of closeness as the sound was picked up directly and the three-dimensional effect of the loud cheers spreading behind them were truly amazing. The synths and chorus create a familiar yet profound sound world, creating a spectacle that makes you feel like you’re carrying a steady stream of clapping hands on your back. It is a work that can only be done with the latest equipment, only with audience recording, and only with a master taper. The latest TOTO, depicted with such a sound, was a live performance full of active performance. While interspersing famous songs from the 80’s from their debut album “TOTO” (the only songs from the 90’s are “On the Run” and “The Road Goes On”), the main focus of the show is new songs from “TOTO XIV”, their first new album in 9 years. Starting with the opening song “Running Out Of Time”, the singles “Orphan”, “Holy War”, “Burn”, and even the Japanese version bonus track “Bend”. Six songs, half of the new songs, were played. Furthermore, this time, Steve Lukather’s solo time with the theme of Robin Trower’s “Bridge of Sighs” will be performed for more than 9 minutes. Since their reunion in 2010, they have performed many greatest hits shows, so this is very refreshing. It also has a wonderful documentary feel that firmly captures that fresh atmosphere. After all, the BGM before the performance is also recorded for about 6 minutes. It’s not like there’s going to be a big fuss because the audience is just the audience, but the atmosphere of slowly building anticipation blows out from the speakers, and it’s as if it can be felt all the way to the room temperature at the venue. The announcement, “Thank you for waiting. The performance will begin soon…” was heard, and a roar of applause erupted. Such a real mood is captured throughout the entire performance, and after the encore, “Today’s concert has come to an end for now. Let’s slowly head towards the exit so as not to crowd each other…” It completely records everything from the day, up to the announcement. If you recall, “TOTO XIV” was released exactly one year ago. It was the first successful work in a long time, receiving warm welcome from all over the world and topping the charts in various countries, but since it coincided with less than a week after the news of Mike’s death, it sounded like there was a sense of loss in the air. However, TOTO, who came to Japan with the new song, had no sense of loss. In this work, they are not saddened by the loss of Mike, but are looking forward. TOTO has once again taken strong steps towards the future. A live album where you can enjoy the footprints left in Japan with the finest sound. For those of you who breathe the same time as them.
