Description

What is engraved on this work is “February 21, 1974 Providence Performance”. This is an audience recording that records the whole story. Of course, this work was recorded by Dan Lampinski. It is said that he recorded BLACK SABBATH four times from 1971 to 1975, of which two, in 1974 and 1975, have been made public. The 1975 recording is the ultimate “DEFINITIVE PROVIDENCE 1975”, and the other 1974 recording is this work. Before we get into the details, let’s talk about the show’s position. Speaking of 1974, it was the “SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH TOUR” where BLACK SABBATH reached its peak, and also the tour that also gave birth to the soundboard album “CALIFORNIA JAM 1974: THE COMPLETE MASTER” which will be released this week. First, let’s check the overview. ●August 2nd, 1973: Performed at LONDON MUSIC FESTIVAL [“SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH” released on December 1st]・December 9th-19th: UK #1 (4 performances) ●1974・January 1-19: Europe (8 performances)・January 31-February 25: North America (23 performances) ←★Coco★・April 6: CALIFORNIA JAM I performance・May 17th – June 9th: UK #2 (14 performances) November 5th – 16th: Australia (8 performances) This is “SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH Panoramic view of “TOUR”. It was a heyday when they toured every major country except Japan, and the symbol of this was the historic event “California Jam.” The Providence performance of this work was the 19th concert of the “North American” tour just before that. This work by Lumpinski, who was present at such a show, is a truly historical audience recording. The heyday of Lampinski recordings was after 1975, with 1974 being the beginning. Perhaps because of this, it lacks a neat beauty compared to later recordings, and the treble is a bit harsh. But that’s Lampinski. The core that approaches you is really strong and powerful, and the details are crisp. SABBATH from “VOL.4 TOUR” to “SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH TOUR” has few great recordings around the world, so it is definitely one of the masterpiece recordings of the tour. The scales of a master who is making a name for himself all over the world are already appearing. Moreover, this work is the highest peak of such Lampinski recording. The excavated original sound has been precisely mastered, and when it was released in “1974,” it was praised by enthusiasts around the world as “the best version!” “1974” has already been sold out and is out of print, so it has been specially reprinted this time. What is more historic than that sound is the show itself. In fact, this recording is BLACK SABBATH’s first two-disc set. There were countless audience recordings left before his debut, but all of them were small enough to fit on one CD. However, SABBATH finally began playing a full-scale show exceeding 90 minutes on the 1973 “North American” tour, and this work is the first sonic evidence. The biggest flavor is probably the “Sabbra Cadabra” section in the latter half of the show. They play for 52 minutes, freely mixing jams, guitar/drum solos, and repertoire such as “Sometimes I’m Happy,” “Supernaut,” and “Iron Man.” And the highlight is “Black Sabbath”. It will be played on the next “SABOTAGE TOUR”, but it is actually back for the first time in three years since 1971. Moreover, the arrangement that avalanches into the reprise of “Sabbra Cadabra” with a jam in between is extremely rare, and only two performances have been confirmed, including this work. This is a live album in which the full power of BLACK SABBATH comes out from the long jam section. This two-disc set not only completes the collection of the master Lumpinski, but also has historical content. Civic Center, Providence, RI, USA 21st February 1974 PERFECT SOUND Disc 1(30:05) 1.
