Description
This is a remastered version of the high quality stereo soundboard recording “MEMORY PAIN” recorded at the Nakano Sun Plaza performance on September 25th, 1980, from the second tour of Japan, which was released in 2005 and sold out in a short time. This is a must-listen for fans, using a cassette master leaked by a related party, and it has been described as “the best sound quality” in reviews in specialist magazines, but it had a slightly loud hiss noise and an analog sound image typical of a tape master. This time, the sound has been brightened from the slightly muffled original sound, resulting in a clear, dynamic, and clearer modern sound with a punchy overall sound. This is the first stereo soundboard recording that astonished PHIL LYNOTT & THIN LIZZY fans around the world when it was released. Phil’s vivid singing voice and bass playing are recorded very clearly throughout the entire album, and it is a very valuable take that is sure to bring tears to the eyes of fans. The original was a cassette master directly connected to the desk, and although there is some hiss, the analog-like sound fits the performance very well and is very pleasant to listen to. The guitar combination of Snowy White, who had just joined THIN LIZZY at the time and made a name for himself as a support player for Pink Floyd, and Scott Gorham is wonderful, and you can hear the flowing guitar solos in each song. The set is unique to this period, featuring six songs from “CHINATOWN” as representative songs, and each one is a must-listen part. At the beginning of Chinatown on disc 2, there is a cut of the reversed part of the 90-minute cassette, but otherwise you can enjoy the show with a very stable sound image. Memory Pain, recorded on the B-side of the single “Trouble Boys”, and Phil’s echo-filled vocals in the intro of Got To Give It Up are spine-chilling. And the most amazing part is the medley of The Cowboy Song and The Boys Are Back In Town, where each part builds up dramatically and overwhelms the listener with the power of nothing else. The twin guitar parts of the Irish classic Black Rose are the biggest peak of the concert, and you can fully experience the best moment that all British rock fans should hear. (This song also features a brilliant drum solo by Brian Downey.) The band ensemble featuring Darren Wharton’s keyboard is also quite tasteful, as is typical of this period. This remastered version of the famous recording is sure to be enjoyed by fans who have not heard it before, as well as those who already own the recording.
