Description
We present you with a stereo soundboard album of the glorious “first period”. This work includes “Stockholm performance on January 17, 1973” and “Malmö performance on January 26, 1973”. Both are in Sweden, and the main performance is in Stockholm. Only the last song “Strangeher” is from Malmö. This Swedish performance is the very early one. After recording the famous album “TEMPEST” in November 1972, they started live activities. This work is the very early one, just after its completion and before its release. Although it cannot be said for sure because there are few records from that time, it is TEMPEST’s first European tour. In particular, it is said that the Stockholm performance was the first day. Such a Swedish performance was also broadcast on the radio. It is also known as “the only broadcast sound source of the earliest TEMPEST”. This work is a soundboard album that contains the best master. And the quality is special. As an air check board from the early 70s, you can’t ask for more. It is a wonderful sound that allows you to fully enjoy the contours and resolution that are not found in audience recordings. The quality depicts the passionate performance that is unique to the very early days. The main focus was on promoting the release of their debut work, and they performed all songs except for “Brothers” from “TEMPEST”, and the performance was compact and commercial without destroying the image of the songs. Compared to the subsequent tours, the ensemble is highly disciplined and complete, yet energetic, and they give a passionate performance that almost interrupts Paul Williams’s intense singing. What is even more noteworthy is Holdsworth. It is dizzying just to be the only sound board from the “first period” in which he was enrolled, but the contents are also amazing. Particularly intriguing is the violin solo in “Upon Tomorrow”. Since TEMPEST, he has almost never played the violin in live performances, so this solo is extremely rare. Technically, he cannot be compared to a professional violinist, but his unique timing creates a dark atmosphere, and his brilliant phrasing is ingeniously designed to keep you from getting bored even during the long three-and-a-half minute piece. Of course, his guitar playing is superb, and he plays flawless performances that emphasize riffs throughout the entire song. This is the definitive live album of TEMPEST, the pinnacle of the band left by Allan Holdsworth. Live at Radiohous Studios, Stockholm, Sweden 17th January 1973 (41:32) 1. Gorgon 2. Dark House 3.
