Description
This magnificent suite will be performed by Danish veteran trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg, who composed and arranged Miles Davis’ final CBS album “Aura,” conducted the orchestra, and even played the trumpet; Norwegian guitar treasure Terje Rypdal; legendary Irish female singer-songwriter Padline; and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, one of the best in Scandinavia. He made his professional debut in 1960, formed a quintet with Alex Leal in 1966, won first place at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1968, and continued to work with The Entrance and Peter Herbolzeimer’s bands in the 1970s, and after Odyssey broke up, his encounters began with Rypdal’s “Descendre” in 1979. He continued to work mainly on ECM-related projects, and in the 1980s created works for his beloved Miles Davis. This album features Scandinavian trumpeters Palle Mikkelborg and Terje Rypdal, the rare female Irish singer-songwriter Padraic Allachain, where tradition and innovation intersect, harpist Helen Davis, and Irish bagpipes. This treasure trove of a performance was held on May 6th, 1998 at the Stavanger Concert Hall in Norway. The performance featured Liam O’Flynn on the uilleann pipes, Gert Sorensen on percussion, and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the most successful classical orchestra in Scandinavia, consisting of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, which has been in existence since 1931. The performance was a 70-minute long, progressive, and epic piece that combined various elements. This was recorded on a perfect, high-quality stereo soundboard.
