Description

Olivia Newton-John in 2015, who made her last visit to Japan in commemoration of her 45th anniversary of debut. The world’s first superb original recording that conveys the scene is now available. This work is engraved with the performance of “April 27, 2015: Orchard Hall”. It is a superb audience recording that vacuum-packed the full show from the front row. First, let’s look back on the schedule of her visit to Japan, which was the last one before her death, and check the position of the show. ・April 23: Osaka Festival Hall ・April 24: Nagoya Forest Hall ・April 27: Orchard Hall ←★This work★ ・April 28: Orchard Hall ・April 30 “TOKYO 2015 FINAL NIGHT (Orchard Hall)” ・May 2: Fukushima Prefectural Cultural Center (Pray For Fukushima) A total of 6 performances. Olivia’s last performance in Japan was the memorial performance “Pray For Fukushima” for the Great East Japan Earthquake, but before that, she made a compact circuit of Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. In Tokyo, three consecutive performances were held at Orchard Hall, and this work was recorded on the first day. This work, which conveys such a show, is an original recording only for this work, given to us by the recordist himself. This is the world’s first public master, provided by the recordist who was touched by the news of Olivia’s death. Just being able to hear the last visit to Japan for the first time makes my heart warm, but the sound blows away even that emotion. It is a powerful, on-the-fly, and above all, beautiful recording. In fact, Orchard Hall is a venue that is whispered to as a “difficult place for audience recording,” and even if it feels great on-site, it is not uncommon to hear it again on the recording. The sound components tend to be recorded thickly, making the details cloudy and the core sparse. However, this work is an exception among exceptions. The on-the-fly core is powerful and there is no sparse feeling. If you listen carefully with headphones, you will notice the hall sound, but it is also drowned out by the extremely thick core. Even the Japanese MC, “Good evening everyone, I’m glad to be back in Tokyo,” feels like it’s right in front of you. The main reason for the sound is the skill of the recordist, but just as important is the recording position of the “front row.” Olivia herself is right in front of you, and you can hear the PA sound and the live voice with zero time lag. Of course, the “front row” is also adjacent to the risk of echoes circulating, but with this work there is no worry. Whether it’s the recordist’s technique or a coincidence, the contours are clearly cut and even the fine details are vivid. Olivia’s singing voice in particular is a super-realistic recording with zero distance to her breathing. Such a front row sound depicts a treasure trove of masterpieces that seem to condense her 45-year career. Let’s organize the set by comparing it with “SUMMER NIGHTS: LIVE IN LAS VEGAS,” which was released along with her visit to Japan. MCA/RSO era (20 songs)・If Not For You: If Not For You/Banks Of The Ohio (★)・Let Me Be There: Let Me Be There/Take Me Home, Country Roads・The Breeze: Have You Never Been Mellow/Please Mr. Please/I Honestly Love You・Grease: Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee/You’re The One That I Want/Hopelessly Devoted To You/Summer Nights/We Go Together・Xanadu: Xanadu/Magic/Suddenly・The Rainbow Door: Make A Move On Me (★)/Physical・Others: If You Love Me (Let Me Know)/Sam/A Little More Love After (5 songs)・Indigo: Cry Me A River/Send In The Clowns・Others: Over The Rainbow (★)/Not Gonna Give Into It/Grace And Gratitude *Note: The “★” mark indicates songs that were not heard on the official live album “SUMMER NIGHTS: LIVE IN LAS VEGAS”. …And so on. Although “GAIA: ONE WOMAN’S JOURNEY” and later songs are scattered throughout, the core is still the hit songs from “PHYSICAL”. This album features 20 classics, 18 of which are greatest hits, singles. The live album “TOKYO 2015 FINAL NIGHT” from the final performance in Tokyo will also be released at the same time, but “Send In The Clowns” is a delicious song that you won’t hear there either. Anyway, you can fully experience Olivia’s last Japan tour from the front row…that’s all there is to it. This is a newly excavated live album where you can feel her beautiful voice right in front of you, and experience a sense of synchronization as if your whole body is completely in sync with her singing voice. This live album is as intimate as a soundboard, but is also full of the reality of the audience, which you can never experience on line. This is the best audience recording of the “Orchard Hall performance on April 27, 2015”, which was the last visit to Japan. The original master is released for the first time in the world, and the sound recorded from the front row is exactly “in front of your eyes”. You can feel Olivia’s singing voice so close that you can reach out and touch it, and you can experience the best of the greatest hits, including famous songs that you can’t hear on “SUMMER NIGHTS: LIVE IN LAS VEGAS”, such as “Banks Of The Ohio”, “Make A Move On Me”, and “Over The Rainbow”.
