Description

This work was filmed at the Reading Festival on August 23, 1991. It is a multi-camera work produced by overseas enthusiasts using a variety of existing materials. When you think of “NIRVANA at Reading,” you think of the official video work “LIVE AT READING,” which was in 1992. This work is a completely different performance, one year earlier. On the other hand, when you think of “1991,” you also think of another official video, “LIVE AT THE PARAMOUNT.” First of all, let’s take a look at the overview of the activities at that time and check the relative positions of each.・January 18th / March 2nd-9th / April 17th: North America #1 (7 shows)・May 29th-June 20th: North America #2 (10 shows)・August 15th + 17th: North America #3 (2 shows)・August 20th-September 1st: Europe #1 (10 shows)←★Here★・September 16th-23rd: North America #4a (4 shows)《September 24th “NEVERMIND” released》・September 24th-October 31st: North America #4b (30 shows)←※Official video・November 4th-December 7th: Europe #2 (28 shows)・December 27th-31st: North America #5 (4 shows)This is NIRVANA in 1991. The official “LIVE AT THE PARAMOUNT” was a stage after the release of “NEVERMIND”, but this work is at the stage where the album is completed but waiting for release. This was the third concert of “Europe #1”. This stage is a famous festival, so the records are diverse. There are six audience recordings, three audience shots, and three professional shots, even if they are known. If the professional shots were completely recorded, there would be no complaints, but the story does not go so well. They are all short, about tens of seconds to 15 minutes. And this work was produced by collecting such a group of materials one by one. The workmanship is really wonderful. Basically, it is a multi-camera edit with audience shots, and the style adopts as much special footage as possible, such as detailed professional shots and shots of people involved taken from the side of the stage. Therefore, although the quality changes depending on the scene, each material is very beautiful. The conventionally known footage is also spelled out with the best master of the highest quality ever. Such visual beauty depicts a stage with a sense of openness unique to Reading. As mentioned above, the set is different from the official “LIVE AT THE PARAMOUNT” at a similar time, so let’s check it out here. Nevermind (5 songs) Drain You / Smells Like Teen Spirit / Come As You Are (★) / Breed / Endless, Nameless Others (8 songs) Bleach: School / Floyd The Barber / Love Buzz / Negative Creep / Blew Singles: Sliver / Molly’s Lips (★: with Eugene Kelly) / The End (★) *Note: The ★ mark indicates songs that were not seen in the official video “LIVE AT THE PARAMOUNT”. …And so on. The style is a condensed and reduced version of “NEVERMIND” and “BLEACH” which had not yet been released, but the one that stands out the most is “The End”. It is a cover of THE DOORS, but it is a very rare song that has only been recorded three times in the entire history of NIRVANA. Also, Eugene Kelly of THE VASELINES, whom Kurt admires, appears in “Molly’s Lips”. We can hear a luxurious collaboration with Kurt. Furthermore, the troubles in this show are also fun. In “Negative Creep,” Krist Novoselic’s strap comes off and he becomes bassless (he swings it around and completely abandons the performance), and in the last song, “Endless, Nameless,” Kurt charges at the drums (he waves his hands lightly, but he dislocated his shoulder). In 1992, when they became the darlings of the era, it was dark, but this work is still a daylight stage for the first time. The sense of freedom, the outrageous rampage, and the mysterious energy are only possible at such a time. It is clear at a glance that they have become completely different in just one year. This is the image of the revolutionaries who are about to take control of the era. Richfield Avenue, Reading, England 23rd August 1991 PRO/AUD VIDEO MIX 1. Intro 2. School 3. Floyd The Barber 4.
