Description

A project to excavate the masters of the legendary Mike Millard, who delivers the finest sound from the heyday of progressive rock. The latest edition, the 3-person GENESIS edition, is now available. A considerable number of Millard’s masters have been discovered, and we have introduced masterpieces such as “BURBANK 1976” and “THE ROXY 1980”. This is their 3rd album, the “…AND THEN THERE WERE THREE… Tour” which is in between the previous two. This is an excellent audience recording of “April 17, 1978 Inglewood Performance”, which is one of the first acts. When we think of 1978, we Japanese people think of the legendary first visit to Japan. To visualize such a situation, let’s first look back at the schedule at that time.・March 26th-31st: North America #1a (4 performances) [“…AND THEN THERE WERE THREE…” released on March 31st] ・April 1st-22nd: North America #1b (14 Performances)←★Coco★・May 14th-June 24th: Europe #1 (26 performances)・July 3rd-31st: North America #2 (20 performances)・August 20th-September 9th : Europe #2 (10 performances) September 29th – October 22nd: North America #3 (17 performances) November 27th – December 3rd: Japan (6 performances) This is GENESIS in 1978. The first visit to Japan was at the very end of the world tour. Although it was realized in the form of an afterthought, the Inglewood performance of this work is the exact opposite. This was the 13th concert (17th tour overall) of “North America #1b” immediately after the release of the album. This work recorded at such a show is an extremely neat and beautiful recording. The vocals have a soft sound compared to Millard’s standard of “miracles being in close contact by default”, but perhaps this is related to the sound output at the scene. The performance sound is Millard-like and tight, and you can feel it right in front of your eyes, and the slight hall sound gives it a dreamy feel. It has a sense of elongation and spaciousness, but it also has an aesthetic feel that is different from the sense of distance…Although this work is GENESIS with only three people remaining, the sound nuance is reminiscent of “LIVE” from the Peter Gabriel era. Of course, these are based on Millard standards. In terms of normal 70’s audience standards, it’s like, “This is amazing!” “It’s super good, so please listen to it!” What is depicted with such a fantastic sound is a full show that does not reduce quality even with the new system…no, it is filled with the spirit of trying to improve even more. From today’s point of view, it is natural to have an ensemble with Darryl Stuermer as support, but the five people in this work have just become a new organization (as mentioned above). He is full of determination to prove his ability, and his fresh energy is dazzling. However, it is also the 17th stage under the new system, and it is also a live performance where the feeling of fumbling is gone and only the spirit is conveyed deliciously. Also, the set is really fresh. As mentioned above, the “…AND THEN THERE WERE THREE… Tour” also came to Japan for the first time, but this work is slightly different because it is only in the beginning. Let’s organize the contents here. Peter Gabriel era (4 songs) ・Mysterious antique music box: The Fountain Of Salmacis (★) ・Knight in the moonlight: The Cinema Show/I Know What I Like ・Dazzling Broadway: In The Cage 4 person era (8 songs + α )・Trick of the Tail: Ripples/Squonk/Dance On A Volcano/Los Endos・Silence Storm: Eleventh Earl Of Mar/One For The Vine/Afterglow・Others: Down And Out (★)/Drum Duet and 3 people left (5 songs) – Burning Rope / Deep In The Motherlode / Say It’s Alright Joe / The Lady Lies / Follow You Follow Me *Note: Songs marked with “★” were not performed on the first visit to Japan. …and it looks like this. Two songs, “The Fountain Of Salmacis” and “Down And Out”, fell out of the set during the tour and were not played at the performance in Japan, but they were not revived after that. It is a valuable performance precisely because it is the beginning of the tour. The new songs “…AND THEN THERE WERE THREE…” are also valuable. “Follow You Follow Me” will survive as a representative song, but the other songs will disappear at most until the next “DUKE Tour”. You can enjoy many such famous songs with Mirrored Sound. Millard is a master who only recorded once with most bands. GENESIS was one of the few bands that he loved so much that he tried to record them over and over again. A live album with a beautiful sound that even that love flows out of the speakers. Exquisite audience recording of “April 17, 1978 Inglewood Performance”. It has been digitized from the original master of legendary master Mike Millard, and the performance is tight and you can feel it right in front of your eyes, and the faint hall-ringing vocals resonate fantastically. Although this work is GENESIS with only three members remaining, it has an aesthetic sound reminiscent of “LIVE” from the Gabriel era. This is a live album where you can experience the best full show of the three remaining members, including “The Fountain Of Salmacis” and “Down And Out” which will not be played at the end of this tour.
