Description
This is the first live recording from 1988 since “EAST TROY 1988,” which was very well received as the best recording from Bob Dylan’s popular 1988 tour. While “EAST TROY” captured the first half of the tour, this one features a live performance in Upper Darby on October 13th. However, not only was it the first day of the final date of the 1988 tour, but it was also a strangely high-tension live performance, so you can’t miss it. Originally, the 1988 tour was a year of high-tension performances by a band centered around GE Smith, who prided themselves on simple and hard performances, but by October, Dylan had not only squeezed out his last strength, but also injected even more energy into the live performance and put on a tremendous stage. Let’s actually listen to the live performance on this day. From “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” which became the opening number throughout the year, it is clear that both Dylan and the band were already challenging themselves with full power. Even so, Dylan’s singing was overwhelming with its intense tension, and he continued to shout like he was pushing hard after this. It’s hard to believe that this is the end of a tour that has been going around the US since June. The performance progresses in such a literally upper tension (the ease of listening to each song’s compact performance is also one of the charms of ’88). “Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream” was introduced as a live repertoire for the first time at the end of the tour. It was a fast-paced folk rock song that was included in the album “BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME”, but the ’88 band cooked it into an upper and super hard number here as well. You may be stunned by the straight and powerful performance, and the power of Dylan’s full-throttle shout. The performance is so pushy that it is full of charm with a well-balanced composition that includes an acoustic set by Dylan and GE in the middle. The final track, “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” begins with an acoustic atmosphere centered around Dylan, but as soon as Christopher Parker’s drums come in, the performance suddenly changes to a wild one, which is also excellent. The live performance that wraps up from there to the end will once again make you realize how great the ’88 tour was. Regarding October, the leaked soundboard recording of the New York performance on the 19th, the final day of the tour, is known to enthusiasts, but it was not highly rated because it lacked clarity and realism. The sound source this time is an audience recording, but it is in an excellent state with outstanding clarity, good visibility, and fine freshness. The sound quality is a superb recording that you will be convinced of if you listen to it. Of course, the on sound pressure is also magnificent, and the sound quality is so great that it seems strange that such a good sound source has not been released until now. And if it becomes a super upper tension performance throughout the whole work, the release was decided without complaint. A new standard title for the ’88 tour is born here!
