Description

This time, to coincide with Paul’s return to Japan, we have faithfully turned the Beatles’ masterpieces produced by OG into CDs! Speaking of the OG Beatles, I think the most famous one is “LIVE IN TOKYO”, which made the sound source (video source) of the first day of the Budokan performance known to the world for the first time. Furthermore, “LIVE AT SHEA STADIUM” can be called a masterpiece. The luxurious construction of the laminate cover, which is rare among OG items that overwhelmingly have slick covers, shows how confident OG is. The design of the jacket is simple but has a sense of style, and the lettering, which uses red and black, is also impressive. In fact, the maniac who provided us with the OG version said that he bought this at a record store at the time because he didn’t like the cover of the previous ZEP title “LIVE” (lol). The main content of this masterpiece is the 1964 Hollywood Bowl concert, which was officially premised on the release of a live album. It was a live performance at the Hollywood Bowl, which was recorded for two years in a row, but the release of the album was initially considered at the stage when the live performance on August 23, 1964 was recorded, and an acetate version was even made. This acetate was taken out by someone, and various LP items were made because it was a sound board recording with good sound quality. According to the “Dictionary”, which is still treated as a bible among specialized magazines and enthusiasts, two of the LP items based on acetate are “THE ONLY LIVE RECORDING” and “BACK IN 1964 AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL”, which are originals of this acetate.・It seems that it will be released. The OG version is recorded in a state very similar to “THE ONLY ~”, but the skipping in “Can’t Buy Me Love” that was there is not here. Despite this, the skips and acetate-specific noise that occur during Paul’s MC after “You Can’t Do That” are the same, and when you listen to it, it seems as if “THE ONLY ~” has been copied and equalized. However, the big mystery is that there is no sound skipping. Still, it was a mystery that “If I Fell”, which had a skip in “BACK IN 1964~”, was not included. In any case, it is true that the Hollywood Bowl part of the OG version has high sound quality, and the “Dictionary” also said that it “sounds better than other items”. However, as was often the case with LP items at the time, the leftover portion of the LP was filled with the song “Everywhere It’s Christmas” that could be heard on the fan club’s Christmas record, and it was released as Shea Stadium even though it was the Hollywood Bowl. gives a sense of the times. After all, at that time, although it was called the last concert, it was actually common for releases with misidentified contents such as Shea Stadium. It’s a good sound source…I don’t know when it was live, but for now I’ll just call it the famous Shay. The more mysterious thing is that the outtake “What’s The New Mary Jane” from “THE BEATLES” is recorded with surprising clarity and stereo. The existence of “What’s The~” was made clear at the time by nostalgic LPs such as “MARY JANE” and “THE NEVER RELEASED MARY JANE,” but they were based on acetate and were recorded in monaural. On the other hand, the fact that it was recorded here with exceptional quality surprised mania around the world. The original LP released on the white label was carefully converted into a CD, so the clear condition of this song is even more outstanding. Of course, I didn’t copy it from the “BACK TO BASICS” CD (lol). It is an OG masterpiece that boasts a mysteriously high quality even now, so much so that a copy version with a red jacket was later made. In addition, a paper jacket version of this title was also released on CD, but it was replaced with a genuine live performance at Shea Stadium. That makes no sense! This time, we are very particular about reproducing the legendary and vintage OG record, and except for the pitch adjustments made to the Hollywood Bowl and “Mary Jane”, it is the same as the nostalgic masterpiece. You don’t have to worry about damaging the needle after playback because part of the matrix was erased with a soldering iron (lol) Offshore Records OG-718 Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, CA.
