Description
In 1983, METALLICA welcomed Kirk Hammett and embarked on a world domination with a rock-solid system. Introducing a live album where you can experience the best start dash. This work includes “December 15, 1983 Chicago Performance”. This is a masterpiece audience recording that includes two performances a day, in the evening and at night. Speaking of 1983, new songs were born one after another due to the change from Dave Mustaine to Kirk. It was also a time when METALLICA’s next work “RIDE THE LIGHTNING”, which would establish their individuality, was beginning to show signs of growth, and they were rapidly growing day by day. First of all, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and check the show’s position. 1983《April 11th: Dave Mustaine fired》 ・April 16th – May 7th: Warm-up (5 performances) 《May 10th – 27th production of “KILL ‘EM ALL”》 ・July 27th Sunday – September 3rd: North America #1 (32 performances) October 31st – November 26th: North America #2 (8 performances) December 14th – 31st: North America #3a (6 performances) ←★ Coco★ 1984, January 7th-22nd: North America #3b (6 performances), February 3rd-12th: Europe (6 performances) 《February 20th-March 14th “RIDE THE LIGHTNING” production >> This is the journey from Mustaine’s dramatic firing to the production of “RIDE THE LIGHTNING.” In support of our predecessors such as RAVEN, VENOM, and TWISTED SISTER WHILE, we embarked on a “tour life” for the first time, performing live and traveling every night. The Chicago performance of this work was a concert on the second day of “North America #3” at the end of such an innocent 1983. As mentioned above, two performances were held on this day, one in the evening and one in the evening, and this work is a two-disc set with each audience recording arranged on one disc. Real audience whose quality is also exquisite. Both are digitized directly from the original masters recorded in clubs where enthusiasm is concentrated, and are different from the previously released versions that have deteriorated due to dubbing. Its fresh realism is wonderful, but its individuality is very different between the two performances. First of all, disc 1 (evening performance) is the type where the tremendous heat of the exploding club blows out from the speakers. Immediately after the performance started, there was a tremendous excitement, with loud choruses, screams, and screams (?) riding on the thrash beat. When you listen to it quickly, you can hear the angry screams almost like a fight, and the extremely dangerous mood makes you feel cold. As the song progresses, you can hear them shouting the lyrics in the chorus, so you can tell that it’s not a fight, but a big deal… Of course, METALLICA’s explosive thrash is so powerful that it doesn’t get drowned out by such a dangerous mood, but rather overwhelms it. Well, it’s a super realistic album with a ratio of “band:audience = 7:3”. If Disc 1 is a “closed room feeling” unique to a club, then Disc 2 (night performance) is a masterpiece recording with a “close feeling”. Since it is the same venue, the audience’s mood is probably the same, but it is clearly recorded from close to the band, and a super thick and clear core hits you in the face. Oh, and even though it’s a punch, it doesn’t mean a bang. In fact, it’s the opposite. James roars with all his might, and doesn’t freak out at all even though his thrash riff, one of the best of our time, was hit last time. However, the sharp outline of the riff and the destructive power with zero sense of distance are vivid, and it is this closeness that makes it feel as if you can reach it at arm’s length, creating a punching force. The shows drawn by these two unique artists have slightly different sets. Let’s organize the contents here. KILL ‘EM ALL (9 songs, 15 takes) / Common to both performances: Hit the Lights / The Four Horsemen / No Remorse / Seek & Destroy / (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth / Whiplash / Evening section only: Jump in the Fire / Phantom Lord・Night portion only: Motorbreath ●RIDE THE LIGHTNING (4 songs, 6 takes) Common to both performances: Fight Fire With Fire/Ride the Lightning・Evening portion only: The Call of Ktulu・Night portion only: Creeping Death… …and it looks like this. In addition to the just-released “KILL ‘EM ALL”, the new song “RIDE THE LIGHTNING” has already begun to be played. The three songs “Fight Fire With Fire,” “Ride the Lightning,” and “Creeping Death” are new songs that have been played since “North America #2,” and are the early performances of this work, about the 5th or 6th time. The rare “The Call of Ktulu” has been played since the end of “North America #1″ a little earlier, but in any case it is around 10 times. Normally, you might feel like you haven’t mastered the early stages, but in thrash metal, the initial impulse is the ultimate music. The tremendous force was tremendous, and the audience members were stunned at first as they were hit with all their might, but then they started chanting the chorus while letting out voices of admiration… The excitement that only exists during this period is the most interesting. “RIDE THE LIGHTNING” is infused with the lyricism and grand taste of Kirk, who loves MERCYFULL FATE, and establishes METALLICA’s individuality. This is a two-disc set that allows you to experience the best show from the period when it was in its infancy. The “evening section” will leave you feeling suffocated by the feeling of a thrash fanatic behind closed doors, and the “night section” will allow you to feel the destructive power of the performance up close. Although they have different personalities, these two powerful performances could only be possible at a club gig. Broadway Jack’s, Chicago, IL, USA 15th December 1983 Disc 1 (66:34) EARLY SHOW 1.
