Description

Introducing a delightful title that compiles many of METALLICA’s most representative demo tapes from the earliest days, including the legendary “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER” and “MEGAFORCE DEMO”! This is a masterpiece that spread to underground scenes all over the world during their amateur days before their debut, and made METALLICA known at the time of their debut as “the band with the most famous demos in the world”! It is not only historically valuable. For an amateur band without a record deal, a demo tape is not an album in the making, but a fine piece of work. Rather, it can be said that they are “imbued with the spirit of a generation”, where their lives are determined by whether or not they can secure a contract. Since METALLICA’s “RIDE THE LIGHTNING,” various demos have seen the light of day, but all of them are still “prototypes” or “studies.” However, unlike their pre-debut demos, the songs are complete, and the excitement of their performance is incomparable. “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER” was dubbed all over the world, and the charm of its sound made even enthusiasts who hadn’t seen the live performance say, “METALLICA is amazing!”. “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER” has been dubbed and spread all over the world, and tapes and bootlegs of various generations are everywhere, and “BAY AREA THRASHERS” is a pseudo-live version with fake cheers. ” and “IN THE BEGINNING… LIVE” were popular in the import market. This time, we have obtained the master that is considered to be the best among the miscellaneous sound sources, and have decided to release it. First up is the legendary favorite, “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER.” Until then, METALLICA had made several demos, including covers of DIAMOND HEAD, SAVAGE, and SWEET SAVAGE, but they were all recorded in the garage of first bassist Ron McGoverney’s house. In comparison, “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER” is the first full-fledged demo recorded at “Chateau East Studio” in California. The sound quality and the completeness of the performance are completely different from before. Lead guitar is of course Dave Mustaine! Although Kirk Hammett’s solo probably contributed to the later success, the originator’s awesomeness is still different. METALLICA is full of that mechanical and thrilling solo that is familiar from MEGADETH. These are all the best takes, worthy of the legendary name. Next is “MEGAFORCE DEMO”. These two songs are also known as “KUSF DEMO” because they were recorded live at “KUSF FM” in San Francisco. Although not as famous as “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER,” these two songs finally feature a collaboration between Mustaine and Cliff Burton! What’s more, the songs are the killer “Whiplash” and “No Remorse”, which are not found in “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER”, so it’s irresistible! After the 10th song, there are bonus tracks. First of all, “Hit The Lights” was provided for the compilation “METAL MASSACRE”. This is the earliest recording, said to be from 1981 to early 1982, and is a take where you can hear the solo of the legendary first black guitarist, Lloyd Grant. Because I was dissatisfied with the result, I replaced the takes after the second press, and Mustaine was also the lead there. The next four songs are the famous “POWER MEAL” demo. It was recorded earlier than “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER”, and the sound quality is a step inferior as it was recorded in McGoverney’s garage, but it contains the passion of just starting to write original songs. The last three songs are takes after Kirk Hammett was replaced, and are considered to be tour rehearsals. At the end, “Na Na Na,” you can hear a voice confirming the riff. Again, the sounds you can hear in “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER” and “MEGAFORCE DEMO” are truly legendary. These are all takes filled with the “initial impulse” that is the lifeblood of thrash. Let’s be clear. There’s so much charm here that even our beloved “KILL ‘EM ALL” could be turned into an “expensive re-recording”! In the two demos, you can listen to Mustaine’s version of all songs of “KILL ‘EM ALL” (“The Mechanix” is the original song of “The Four Horsemen”) except the bass solo “Pulling Teeth”, but that is to say They are none other than the “fathers of modern metal.” Although they are referred to as the “Thrash Big Four,” MEGADETH is second only to METALLICA in terms of sales, popularity, and amount of underground music, and has achieved an order of magnitude more success than any other band. Even the legendary Kerry King said, “After seeing early METALLICA, I wanted to play fast,” and “I want to play with that amazing guitarist,” knocking on MEGADETH’s door. In fact, the origins of the “Big Two Metal” are condensed here! This work was created by young people who were infatuated with MOTORHEAD’s “OVERKILL” and DIAMOND HEAD’s “LIGHTNING TO THE NATIONS,” and later METALLICA and MEGADETH were created. The most important sound source, a turning point in history, that changed the “standard” of heavy metal around the world.
