Description

METALLICA’s “BLACK ALBUM” era is in the midst of a re-evaluation as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Two leaked DAT masters of super-fine soundboards that were representative of that time but were not included in the official box have been reissued. This is the second of two simultaneous releases. It is a superb stereo soundboard recording of the “May 28, 1993 Gentofte performance (Denmark)”, Lars Ulrich’s hometown. The full picture of the world tour that lasted for three full years will be explained in the simultaneous release of “DEN BOSCH 1992”, so let’s focus on “1993” and look back on the schedule here.・January 22nd-March 2nd: North America (23 shows) ←※Official Mexico show ・March 12th + 13th: Hawaii (2 shows) ・March 16th-23rd: Japan (6 shows) ・March 26th-April 8th: Oceania (10 shows) ・April 10th-17th: Asia (5 shows) ・May 1st-8th: South America (5 shows) ・May 19th-July 4th: Europe (24 shows) ←★Here★《November 23rd release of “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE”》This is METALLICA in 1993. It seems complicated when you look at it in detail like this, but roughly speaking, it can be divided into two parts: “North America/Pacific Rim” and “South America/Europe”. Speaking of 1993, Mexico City, which was included in “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE”, is the most famous, but that was the early “North America” leg. In contrast, the Gentofte performance of this work was the seventh concert of the final “European” leg. This work recorded at such a show is a shocking sound board that once swept the world as the masterpiece “NOWHERE ELSE TO ROAM”. It is a masterpiece among masterpieces that was directly converted to CD from a DAT master leaked by a band member at that time. Its quality can only be described as “transcendent”. During the “BLACK ALBUM” era, a large number of sound boards were excavated beyond the distinction between official and unofficial, but this one stands out among them. Although the opening “Creeping Death” and the beginning of the next song “Harvester Of Sorrow” did not reign as the No. 1 tour due to a recording error, that was the only drawback. In terms of sound quality, it was a perfect stereo sound board worthy of being called a champion. However, if you imagine the official sound like “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE” here, it’s a bit different. This work is a direct mix table system. There is no cheering mix to create an atmosphere, and no treatment for home playback. The output sound of the site itself is unprocessed and thrown out rudely. Therefore, the realism of the concert is not to be expected, but there is no point in asking for such a thing from a leaked sound board. Instead, the bare feeling due to the unprocessed feeling is the true essence, and the tremendous sense of synchronization with the performance itself is the true pleasure. The pan that flies with a strong width and the effect that emphasizes only one word of the lyrics can be felt super clearly. This work is a live album that reproduces the transcendent sound board that can be enjoyed to the maximum extent. The show depicted with such a super-class sound is different from “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE”. Let’s organize the set here while comparing it with the two official performances. Metal Masters: Welcome Home (Sanitarium) / Thing That Should Not Be (★) / Disposable Heroes (★) / Master Of Puppets / Battery Black Album: Of Wolf And Man / Wherever I May Roam / The Unforgiven / Nothing Else Matters / Sad But True / Enter Sandman Others: Bloodstained Hammer: The Four Horsemen / Seek & Destroy Ride the Lightning: For Whom The Bell Tolls / Fade To Black Metal Justice: Harvester Of Sorrow / One Cover: Last Caress / So What? *Note: The ★ mark indicates songs that were not heard at the San Diego and Mexico City performances of “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE”. …And so on. The tracklist on the artwork also credits jams and songs included in each solo (there is also a jam with a motif of Jimi Hendrix’s cover “Third Stone From The Sun”), so it is a little different, but the songs that will be played almost in full are as above. The encore selection was different from the official one in the simultaneously released “DEN BOSCH 1992”, but this work is in the middle. Rare repertoire such as “Thing That Should Not Be” and “Disposable Heroes” from “MASTER OF PUPPETS” were selected. Moreover, the songs that were removed as a result are also points, and straightforward numbers such as “Whiplash”, “Motorbreath”, and “Stone Cold Crazy” have been cut. Of course, there are also “Battery” and “So What?”, so it’s a show with a stronger sense of heavier groove. And the performance that spells out the set is also intense. After all, the scene of this work is Lars’ hometown in Denmark. Perhaps because of that, the performance with enthusiasm from start to finish is intense and heavy. Speaking of the direct-connected sound boards of this period, the roughness of the performance stands out, but this work is a super-class live album where the harsh performance directly burns the brain. METALLICA in 1993, which rose to the darling of the era and became bigger than the music genre “thrash metal” itself. It is a super-direct-connected sound board where the moment of the climax invades the brain. The extreme north of heavy metal that can only be enjoyed with DAT by related parties. A super-class stereo sound board recording of “May 28, 1993 Gentofte performance”. It is a masterpiece created from the DAT master leaked by related parties, and although the beginning of “Creeping Death” and the next song “Harvester Of Sorrow” did not become the tour No. 1 due to a recording error, it is an ultra-excellent sound that stands out even in the “BLACK ALBUM” era when a large amount of SBD was left behind. “Thing That Should Not Be” and “Disposable Heroes”, which were not heard at the Mexico/San Diego performance of “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE”, are also deliciously heavy. This is an intense and unparalleled soundboard album where the intense live performance is poured directly into your brain, just like Lars’ hometown.
