Description
MARILLION has released the re-worked song “WITH FRIENDS FROM THE ORCHESTRA” and has started a tour with an orchestra. The latest original recording that conveys the scene is now available. There are two performances included in this work. “November 18th + 19th, 2019 London performance”. This is a superb audience recording recorded at the traditional venue “Royal Albert Hall (RAH)”. They are currently on an orchestral tour “MARILLION WITH FRIENDS FROM THE ORCHESTRA LIVE 2019”, but that is not the only tour they have planned. In order to know the latest situation, let’s check the position of the show from the current activity status. ●2019, March 22nd – April 28th: Europe #1 (9 performances), May 17th – 19th: North America (3 performances), May 31st – June 2nd: Europe #2 ( 3 performances) ◆November 1st-19th: UK (13 performances) ←★Here★《“WITH FRIENDS FROM THE ORCHESTRA” released on November 29th》◆December 6th-16th: Europe #3 (6 performances) ) ・December 20th: Oxford Performance ●March 27th, 2020: Participated in CRUISE TO THE EDGE *Note: “◆” indicates a performance with an orchestra. “・” marks are only for bands. This is the 2019/2020 schedule that has been announced so far. Until June, they have been holding regular live shows with only the band, including the “UK” tour in November and “Europe #3” in December, in which they performed with an orchestra. Afterwards, regular style lectures are scheduled. It’s still too early to say anything about the future, but perhaps the 19 performances mentioned above will be all of the orchestra performances. Under such circumstances, the RAH performances of this work are the last two performances that will be the highlights of the “European” tour. At RAH, it is only two consecutive nights, and this work completely records the whole story. And the quality is also top notch. It is the work of a local taper who is well-known to us as a “British master”, and for him RAH is a familiar home garden. This time as well, that know-how is on full display…and not only that. In fact, it is a masterpiece that stands out even among the masters’ collections. Particularly amazing is the first day (disc 1-2). The audience-like quality is engraved in the on-site applause and the snare tone, but other than that, there is almost no guest record-like quality. That’s no wonder, the recording position on the first day was in the front row, and there was no physical sense of distance. When co-starring with an orchestra, it is natural that the sounds of the performance are mixed together, but in this work, the orchestra and band can be heard clearly separated, and you can feel each one of them right in front of you. On the second day (discs 3-4), there is no sense of surprise, but this is also not normal. It is true that the sound of the hall is picked up, but it is full of elegance because it is RAH, and while adding depth to the performance, it never hides details. Rather, the illusion unique to MARILLION and Steve Hogarth’s beautiful dandy voice are more beautiful on the second day, and the orchestra feels more dynamic. More than that sound, what really separates both days is the set list. They are known as a band that often changes their songs daily, but I thought that even the orchestra would not be able to keep up with their rough techniques, but they changed them beautifully. Let’s summarize the contents of the two days here. [Songs played on both days] ●Repertoire included in the new work (3 songs)・Estonia/Seasons End/This Strange Engine ●Repertoire not included in the new work (2 songs)・Gaza/Separated Out [Performed on only one day Songs] ●Repertoire included in the new album (6 songs)・First day (Disc 1-2): Beyond You/A Collection・Second day (Disc 3-4): Fantastic Place/Hollow Man/Ocean Cloud/The Sky Above the Rain ●Repertoire not included in the new work (7 songs) ・First day (disc 1-2): Power/The New Kings/Man Of A Thousand Faces/The Space ・2nd day (disc 3-4): You’re Gone /The Great Escape/Afraid Of Sunlight…And so it goes like this. In fact, not only more than half of the show has been replaced, but all the songs recorded in the new work “WITH FRIENDS FROM THE ORCHESTRA” are divided into two days, and by performing on both days you can enjoy the live performance version of the new work. Even more than that is the repertoire that was not included in the new work. These also have wonderful orchestral arrangements, making them a “sequel to the new work.” I don’t know if they intend to release Part 2, but it would be a waste if they had made it this far and finished it after only 19 performances… It is a magnificent concert that even such unnecessary interference crosses your mind. Also, the opening scene of the first day (disc 1) is a little interesting. It is recorded from the announcement prior to the performance, and a person who appears to be the manager (probably) stands on stage and talks about the significance of the special lecture, reminding everyone to “Put your cell phone in your pocket and enjoy the show!” is. Despite the much-talked-about co-starring concert, no footage has been posted on a certain video site, but this may be due to the effect of this previous theory. Historic orchestra co-starring tour “MARILLION WITH FRIENDS FROM THE ORCHESTRA LIVE”. It takes more than two days to listen to all the new songs, but you can enjoy it at the traditional venue Royal Albert Hall. A gorgeous 4-disc set that allows you to experience the entire two days with the same recording artist’s finest sound.
