Description

For fans who only know of Pat Metheny Group activities, this is an eye-opener! A little-known session between the true genius Lyle Mays and talented songwriters is here. This is the essence of authentic progressive contemporary jazz! ! Be sure to listen to the beautiful bonus too! ! In 1983, when the Pat Metheny Group won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance for their 1982 release “Offramp,” they returned to Somerville, Massachusetts, just in time for a tour with PMG that started in January. The extremely rare live performance of the Bob Moses Special Quintet featuring Lyle Mays, held on June 14th at Willow Jazz Club, is delivered in the highest quality stereo sound with the label’s own careful mastering. Completely recorded for 2 hours at , and as a bonus, 30 minutes of the Lyle Mays Quartet studio live at KCRW in Santa Monica on December 4, 1999 was additionally recorded on a super high quality stereo sound board. 2-disc set has arrived! ! In 1983, the members of the Bob Moses Quintet included Lyle Mays, saxophonist Bob Mintzer, who was also a member of the Buddy Rich Orchestra, Jaco Pastorius’ Word of Mouse, and the Yellow Jackets, and Pat.・At Metheny’s recommendation, young guitarist Bill Frisell participated in Paul Motian’s recording and had just released his first album on ECM, co-starring with Horace Silver and Gil Evans, and with Jack DeJohnette’s group. Bassist Mike Richmond, who is known for his work, and the Wakashishi, who are all new members who have not yet made their debut, except for Moses, include Roland Kirk’s group in the mid-1960s, and the world’s first group with Larry Coryell in the late 1960s. The phantom Free Spirits, which is said to be a jazz rock unit, Gary Burton’s cutting-edge quartet, Open Sky with Dave Liebman in the 1970s, Pat Metheny, Mike Gibbs, Hal Galper, etc., of course the technique, but also the above. The members were selected by Moses, who often collaborated with up-and-coming artists with unique personalities and excellent sensibilities, and who were highly regarded by artists in the same industry. The members were selected by Moses, who later became known as musicians’ musicians. He is demonstrating a talent that cannot be easily measured. Mays’s challenging and impactful avant-garde performances, as if he were a different person from PMG, are like no other, as he freely manipulates electric piano, synth, etc. from a slightly free-form play with live piano with 4-beat based numbers. I’ve never heard of it. In addition, the band’s beautiful performances, such as ECM-like playing and fantastic performances that even fans of progressive rock will fall in love with, will be shown throughout the album. Of course, Mintzer’s versatile blows have been compared to the likes of Michael Brecker, Frisel’s unique and imaginative play, Richmond’s ability to move beyond his adaptation in any situation, and a truly fascinating encounter between the talented team. Get drunk! ! On the other hand, the bonus live performance from 1999 featured Mays’s piano and keyboards, along with masters such as Bob Shepherd on saxophone, Dave Carpenter on bass, and Peter Erskine on drums. A collection of beautiful, high-quality songs that bring to mind scenes as you listen to them touch your heart…A must-listen album featuring the unknown another side of the uniquely talented Lyle Mays in superb high-quality sound. is! !
