Description

The Detroit performance that marked the first day of Led Zeppelin’s 1972 American tour had been hidden for a long time with no sound source, but with the sound source suddenly discovered in 2019, part of the performance was finally released as “DETROIT”. 1972” is still fresh in my memory. Although it was regrettable that it was recorded after the middle of the show from the acoustic corner “Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp”, it is still surprisingly easy to listen to as a sound source that has been kept secret until now, and it is included in the official “HOW THE WEST WAS WON”. It was more than enough documentation to let you know how the tour that was the stage for the recording began. It’s been less than two years since that discovery, and I was surprised that another Detroit recording suddenly appeared on the internet. The excavation was part of “The Dogs of Doom Liberation Series,” which was popular in Atlanta in 1969 a few months ago. Although it is an excavated sound source, unfortunately the recording time is shorter than “Recorder 1” two years ago. The big advantage is that it includes a lot of songs that you couldn’t hear there, but even so, the recording of “Black Dog” started at the end of the performance, and other songs like “Stairway To Heaven” and “That’s The Way” were recorded. ”, and “Tangerine” are also recorded from the latter half of the performance, which is regrettable. Still, what is noteworthy is that the sound quality is better than “Recorder 1”. That was a recording with a typical vintage audience feel, but this time’s sound source has a sense of distance, but the sound quality is surprisingly clear and the freshness is wonderful (I would be shocked if this captured the entire live performance) It was the sound source). In addition, thanks to this sound source, most of “Dazed And Confused”, which was showing a very rare development, can now be heard with clearer sound quality. In other words, the ultra-rare development of Robert Plant singing Bobby Bland’s “Turn On Your Love Light,” famous for his Grateful Dead covers, during “Dazed And~,” is even better than “Recorder 1.” This also means that you can enjoy clear sound quality. Listening to this recording again, while Bonzo’s rhythm was going crazy, it was really unusual for Plant to start singing the same song instead of going to the customary “The Crunge” in 1972. By the way, since the recording of this sound source ended in the middle of this development, the remaining part is “recorder 1”, that is, the part heard in “DETROIT 1972”. Even if it is a fragmentary recording, you can still get a glimpse of how wonderful performances such as “Stairway To Heaven” are, and the plant is in good condition. As a result, the 1972 American tour was the last time he kept his sharp voice from the time of his debut, but it was even more noticeable when it became the first day of the tour. Considering that Plant’s lively singing on this day reached the height of “HOW THE WEST WAS WON” on the first day of the LA Forum and Long Beach, I am even more grateful that the sound source from the first day of the tour was excavated. I am reminded of this. Even with this excavation, it was not a complete reproduction of 1972 Detroit, but it is still a new sound source that will surprise enthusiasts, allowing you to fully enjoy the sharp performance unique to that day. After all, the 1972 American tour is special! Live at Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan, USA 6th June 1972 Disc 1 (39:09) 1. Black Dog 2. Stairway To Heaven 3. That’s The Way 4. Tangerine 5.
