Description

The famous live album “How The West Was Won”, which captures the best moments of Led Zeppelin’s 1972, is reborn with a new JRK remix! Fans are already excited, saying “It’s the best sound!” and “It’s better than the official version!” I would like to share this excitement with you. The main part is the best multi-track soundboard that needs no explanation. It is a great value 3CD with additional audience source recordings of “Tangerine”, “Whole Lotta Love”, “Thank You”, and “Communication Breakdown” that were not included as bonus tracks. Below are JRK’s liner notes. Think back to the first time you heard “How The West Was Won”. It was the first time you experienced the pure, free glory and power of the powerful performance contained here. For me, it was one of the most mysterious moments of Led Zeppelin I have ever experienced. We were fortunate to have a pristine multi-track recording of a wonderful night in June 1972. Unfortunately, one of the problems with the official release is that it is fragmented. Since this album is a mix of both nights, we don’t have complete recordings of both nights, and, even more disappointing, a significant portion of Plant’s inter-song dialogue has been cut out. Sonically, what were great recordings were sadly bricked and crushed by excessive compression and amplification during the mixing process. Although there was nothing we could do about the missing songs and edits, we were able to remix them using the uncompressed 5.1 surround track from the How The West Was Won DVD, something we had previously tried successfully with the great Winston Remasters album How The West Was Redone. When starting this project, my admiration for the individual performances was the main inspiration. I extracted the 5.1 audio track, boosted the guitar and bass in the mix, and EQ’d some parts so that no instrument would overpower the others. Also, the DVD-Audio had a lot of reverb applied, but I kept it to a minimum so that it didn’t destroy the atmosphere of the original recording. Essentially, I wanted to make a version that was better, stronger, and more representative of the power of this concert than Winston’s version, and I think I succeeded in that. Either way, I hope you enjoy the remix and remaster of this fantastic album. CD1 01-L.A.
