Description
The Kinks released their ambitious musical version of the 1968 masterpiece “Village Green,” “Preservation Act Pt 1,” at the end of 1973, and their sequel, the two-disc “Preservation Act Pt 2,” in the summer of 1974. The Providence performance on November 30th was recorded in full for 2 hours and 9 minutes in ultra-high quality audience recording from their US tour in November 1974. The recorder is Dan Lampinski, who has been releasing previously unreleased original sound sources one after another, delighting music fans around the world, and this disc is also recorded with ultra-high quality sound that is completely different from the 1974 audience recording. The first 47 minutes of the show recorded on disc 1 contain the familiar Kinks representative songs, and the second half, recorded across discs 2 and 3, contains the 82-minute “Preservation” suite. What piques the interest of fans is the live reproduction of “Preservation,” and you can listen to the musical performance in an ideal ultra-high quality audience recording. A live performance with a large group including three brass members and a female chorus member. As it is said that “album sales were not good, but the live performance was acclaimed,” the audience seemed to enjoy this “Preservation” suite live, and loud cheers erupted between songs. The theatrical technique of developing a scene completely for each song is very interesting, and in fact, this album is more effective in live performance. Concertmaster Ray Davies not only plays, but also energetically serves as the facilitator and narrator between songs, and receives a great ovation from the audience. Although the period of the live performance was short, this rare live performance, which is thought to have an important meaning not only in the history of Kinks live performances but also in the history of British rock, is a masterpiece that makes you want to thank Lampinski for recording it with ultra-clear, ultra-high quality sound that is good enough for the 21st century.
