Description
The CD “GET BACK RARITIES” is a collection of precious performances from the Get Back Sessions. Since the Get Back Sessions were started with the intention of filming, the camera crew recorded everything from the first day of rehearsals on January 2nd to the final recording on the 31st using a Nagra mono tape recorder. This recording was leaked and countless bootlegs were made from the LP era, but with the release of Purple Chick’s “A/B ROAD” series, which has organized all the recordings over the past decade, it felt like the end of the matter for the original recordings. This is a collection of the best recordings from the Get Back Sessions selected from “A/B ROAD”. In addition, “GET BACK SESSIONS: TWICKENHAM MIX” and “GET BACK SESSIONS: APPLE MIX”, which are based on “A/B ROAD”, will be released, but the editors are different and the editing concepts are completely different. There are certainly some overlaps, but while the latter was centered on cover songs, this one contains unedited versions of the takes from the album and the film “LET IT BE,” as well as early versions of those songs, all on one CD. Therefore, the opening begins with “Adagio For Strings,” which Paul played on the piano before the session began on January 3, just like the one in the film. If you’re a fanatic, you’ll understand the concept of this disc just from that. On January 7, it even contains a historical fragment of Paul’s first idea for “Get Back.” It’s surprising that it’s being played in a minor key at this point. You can even hear the draft of “Give Me Some Truth,” which John put into “IMAGINE” after the Beatles broke up. The hard early arrangement of “Get Back,” played in the session just before George left on January 10, is a different take from the “TWICKENHAM MIX.” Paul’s “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” was also played by the band on January 3rd, and the version sung by John was included, but what you hear here is the version Paul played and sang on piano after George left the band. In addition, the unedited versions of “Two Of Us” (8th), which John and Paul sang on one microphone as seen in the movie, and the unreleased song “Suzy’s Parlor” (9th), which are not included in this title, are included in the “TWICKENHAM MIX”, and as a result, the two items are edited to complement each other. On the other hand, “Please Please Me”, which was sung at Apple Studios after the session turned around, is a take sung by Paul on the 25th, but the “APPLE MIX” includes the version sung by John on the 23rd, which is a thorough edit. And George’s signature song “Something”, which appeared for the first time on January 28th, is in an unfinished state, and a very precious scene is captured in which John, who showed interest in the song, takes the lead vocals instead. Some enthusiasts may have fond memories of the version of “Get Back” that Paul sang in German between sessions on the 27th, which was heard on the analog bootleg “THE REAL CASE HAS JUST BEGUN.” Another point is that it is recorded longer than the version heard there.
