Jackson Browne has released his first new album in seven years, “DOWNHILL FROM EVERYWHERE,” and is currently on a joint tour with James Taylor. This latest report is a superb live album. This work is recorded at the “Napa performance on September 10, 2021.” This is a superb audience recording. Last year, the news of the new coronavirus infection made us feel a little scared, but after that, we resumed our activities safely. We are moving forward with the joint tour “2021 Fall Tour.” First of all, let’s take a look at Browne’s recent situation and see where he is at in the show. 2021 June 10th + 22nd: North America #1 (2 shows) {DOWNHILL FROM EVERYWHERE released on July 23rd} July 29th – September 22nd: North America #2 (30 shows) ←★Here★ October 9th – November 1st: North America #3a (12 shows) >>Now here<< November 10th – December 13th: North America #3b (18 shows) 2022 April 21st – May 12th: North America #4 (12 shows) September 10th: Stateline show This is the schedule that has been announced so far. The music scene seems to have come back to life, but the pandemic is still unstable worldwide. There will be no world tour that travels across continents, and all the shows currently scheduled are in North America. Brown began touring immediately after the release of his new album DOWNHILL FROM EVERYWHERE. “North America #2-3” was a joint tour with Taylor, and the Napa performance of this work was the 24th concert of “North America #2”. This work recorded at such a show is an amazing transcendent audience that combines naturalness, closeness and beauty. Brown appears! The opening scene is the real enthusiasm of the audience, but when the performance starts, the sound that makes you doubt your ears, “Is this a customer record!?” begins to flow. There is no sense of distance at all, and the vocals and chorus do not mix even when they are entangled at the breathing level, and the gentle guitar cutting and drum brushes are super delicate. The bass, which is not particularly large in volume, has a clear attack sound and the expression of the flowing line is very richly drawn. It’s like an FM broadcast…or rather, it’s a sound that is even better. When the sound is that good, you want to explore the cause. There are many things to consider, but one of them is the venue. The Oxbow River Stage, where the event took place, is an open space with seats arranged in a fan-shaped diverging shape, just like a smaller Hollywood Bowl. Therefore, there are no ceilings or walls to reflect the sound, and it seems that the PA output is picked up directly with zero reverberation. Of course, it’s not so easy that anyone can shoot with the best sound outdoors. If you’re far from the PA, it will be sparse, if you’re in a corner of the venue, the stereo feeling will be biased, if the wind is strong, the sound will be washed away, and if you’re not careful, the wind sound will be included. Of course, there is no need to worry about that with this work. It was recorded from the seventh row directly in front of the center near the stage, and it has a stereo feeling, a sense of closeness, and a sense of stability. Up to this point, it’s ideal enough, but this work has exceeded that, so I was surprised. It’s a rich feeling. While there is zero reverberation outdoors, there is no hope of reinforcing the sound with hall noise. The raw feeling of the PA output is captured as it is, and dynamism tends to be lacking. However, the sound of this work is vivid and at the same time rich and gorgeous. Honestly, I don’t know what the cause of this is… All I can imagine is that the venue’s system and the staff’s sense were outstanding. Is it simply a miraculous sound created by chance, or is this the “sound of 2021”? It is still too early to conclude, as the music scene has only just begun to recover. In any case, this transcendent dynamic/close-up sound depicts the full show of Jackson Browne, who is running through 2021. Let’s organize the contents of the set that you are curious about. For Everyman (4 songs) For Everyman/These Days/Take It Easy/Our Lady Of The Well Lonely Runner (4 songs) You Love the Thunder/Running on Empty/The Load-Out/Stay Downhill From Everywhere (5 songs) Downhill From Everywhere/My Cleveland Heart/The Dreamer/Until Justice Is Real/A Human Touch Others (7 songs) 70s: Doctor, My Eyes/Fountain of Sorrow/The Pretender 80s and later: In the Shape of a Heart/I Am A Patriot/I’m Alive/The Long Way Around… and so on. While covering a wide range of careers, the axis is the masterpiece “FOR EVERYMAN” and “RUNNING ON EMPTY”. More than those two, the latest work “DOWNHILL FROM EVERYWHERE” is a big deal. In fact, the collaboration song “A Human Touch” with Leslie Mendelson (who also appears as a guest on this album) and the single song “The Dreamer” were performed before the pandemic, but the remaining three songs are new songs from 2021. The singing voice is also wonderful, and at 73 years old, it gives you a show that is full of activeness. Anyway, it is a super clear / super direct / super dynamic shock sound. It is a live album that allows you to fully experience the latest show with its unusual high sound quality. The music scene was stopped by the unprecedented pandemic, but the evolution of technology continued during that time. A high-quality sound board by a teacher that lets you experience it with your skin. A super-class audience recording of the “Napa performance on September 10, 2021”. Anyway, there is no sense of distance at all, and it is an amazing super-excellent sound that combines a sense of naturalness, closeness and beauty. It is due to the outdoor venue with zero echo, but it has a rich feeling and dynamism that cannot be explained by that alone. The vocals and chorus do not mix even when they are entangled at the breath level, and the gentle guitar cutting and drum brushes are super delicate. The bass and attack sounds are clear and the expression of the flowing lines is very richly drawn. You can experience the delicious full show of the latest work “DOWNHILL FROM EVERYWHERE” number.
