Description

This is a treasured audience album where you can listen to the entire 2 performances of the legendary members Tony Parsons & Doug Sampson! Founder Steve Harris has been performing sporadically under the name IRON MAIDEN since 1976. Their activities became active in 1978 when Dave Murray and Paul Di’Anno joined together. From then on, until Adrian Smith joined, these three members ran up the ladder of success, replacing the second guitar and drums. The oldest record of such early IRON MAIDEN is “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES” recorded on December 31, 1978, but this work is a compilation of the two oldest live recordings. There is a lot of uncertain information about IRON MAIDEN’s very early days, and rumors of records of various dates have come up and then disappeared, but the only recordings we can currently confirm from 1979 are the official “BBC RADIO ONE” and these two performances. That’s all. First, Disc 1 is “September 10, 1979 Music Machine Performance”. This is the oldest live recording. The second guitar when “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES” was produced was Paul Cairns, but in this work he was replaced by Tony Parsons. The drummer is Doug Saumpson, the same as “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES”. The sound is a delicious audience recording with a vintage feel that makes you choke on the historical mood. Although it can’t be said to be “just like a sound board,” it is not a loud or cracking sound, and the musical sound is clear and comfortable. There are two types of masters on the market today, but the best version, which is longer and has a better sound, is included. The live performance with that sound is already filled with original songs, and “Another Life”, “Innocent Exile” and “Drifter”, which will be included in “KILLERS”, are already being played. Although they play such complex songs without any danger, it is quite different from what they were used to with “LIVE AT RAINBOW” and “MAIDEN JAPAN.” That blast doesn’t have a sharp edge, Diano’s quick shouts are innocent, and the drums are a bit unsophisticated. However, this uncouthness is the taste of early MAIDEN. There is a strong smell of the NWOBHM band’s body odor, which had faded with their debut album and almost disappeared with “KILLERS”. Disc 2 instead is “Ruskin Arms Performance October 5, 1979”. This also uses the best and longest master from among the six known versions. It is a live performance that was also recorded in “YEARS OF WRATH 1979-1981”, but this work has more songs and the sound is much better. Although it is slightly over-peaked compared to Disc 1, the clarity is by far superior. The nuances of the performance are vividly conveyed. I especially appreciate the clarity of Tony Parsons’ guitar. Parsons’ unfamiliar rock’n’roll rhythm guitar plays in a familiar song. It’s extremely fresh. Furthermore, the guitar solo is played in the order of Parsons and Murray. Furthermore, there are more songs than Disc 1, and you can also listen to “The Ides Of March,” “Strange World,” and “I’ve Got The Fire.” Especially since “Strange World” is included, all songs from the debut work “Maiden of Steel” are covered. It can be enjoyed as a valuable member of the famous album and a developing version. Another point is that “The Ides Of March” is featured from this period. It’s a song that former member Thunderstick brought to SAMSON and released under the name “Thunderburst” first, but SAMSON had been performing it live even before it was released (June 1980). This is also historical evidence. After this, IRON MAIDEN, which added Dennis Stratton and Clive Burr, produced their debut work “Maiden of Steel” (January 1980) → “METAL FOR MUTHAS TOUR 1980” (February/March) → JUDAS PRIEST’s Supporting the “BRITISH STEEL TOUR 1980” (March) → “IRON MAIDEN TOUR 1980” (April-December), progressing forward and developing into the great success that we are familiar with. This work is a great value 2-disc set that allows you to listen to the 1979 stage before the historical masterpiece “Steel Virgin” all at once.
