In recent years, IRON MAIDEN has divided their world tour into the first and second halves, and they have just finished “Europe #2”, the beginning of the “second half” after about 8 months off. If we look closely at “Europe #2”, we can see that it is divided into two parts, with “Europe #2a” warming up in Belgium/Germany and “Europe #2b” in the UK. The other day’s “FRANKFURT 2017” was “Europe #2a”, while this work is “Europe #2b”. The quality of this work is even better than the previous one! Of course, “FRANKFURT 2017” was also great, but it was more of a “first report of the tour resumption” and was limited to being “the best in Europe #2a”. In contrast, this work is at a great level regardless of where on the tour it is. Unlike “FRANKFURT 2017”, which felt a bit distant, it has plenty of directness, and the crystal clear atmosphere with almost no acoustics in the venue is exquisite. Since the final recording of “Europe #2b” has not yet appeared, it is difficult to say for sure, but it will probably be the representative work of “Europe #2” as a whole. The wonderful thing about the “2017 edition” is that the sound is drawn. Since the tour was divided into the first and second halves, MAIDEN has begun to subtly change the set. This is also something to note, but in addition to “Wrathchild”, which was not performed in the “2016 edition”, this work also features a new song, “The Great Unknown”. In fact, the clear version of “The Great Unknown” is the biggest point of this work. I don’t know if a sound board will appear from the “2017 edition”, but it may be engraved in the history of MAIDEN as “The Great Unknown’s best sound recording” in the near future… It’s such a sound. Also, some songs are included, while others are excluded. “Tears Of A Clown” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name” were dropped from the “2016 edition”, but there was an unexpected reason for the latter. In fact, “Hallowed Be Thy Name” contains a quote from the old song “Life’s Shadow”, and it was caught up in a copyright issue and could not be played. That said, it is not a plagiarism allegation. MAIDEN has been paying royalties since then, with permission from Robert Burton, the author of the original quote. However, there is another co-writer on “Life’s Shadow”, Brian Ingham, and there is a dispute between the two over who should receive the share. It seems that they are refraining from paying until the dispute is resolved and it is determined who will be paid and how. Although it is not the first time that IRON MAIDEN has removed “Hallowed Be Thy Name”, it is a masterpiece among masterpieces that is the epitome of dramatics.
