This is amazing! The latest live album from GRAHAM BONNET BAND, less than a month before their March Japan tour, is here. This is not just the latest recording. There are two surprising points, and first of all, this work is a master of leaks from related parties. This work was recorded in Finland this month. It is a two-disc set with the “February 8, 2017 Helsinki performance” on Disc 1 and the “February 9, 2017 Tampere performance” on Disc 2 the next day. The biggest point of this work is the intense sound of the leaks from related parties. Please note that even though it is a related party album, it is not a sound board. It is a so-called “audience album” recorded by microphone. That said, if you thought “What a customer record!” That’s a bit premature. Although it is classified as an “audience”, this work is a related party recording. It is different from the audience recordings around there. What is amazing is the straight-forward sound. I don’t know why they recorded it, but the sense of closeness that is impossible in the audience seats is intense. That’s why poor line recording is not an issue, and it’s an extremely vivid sound like a sound board directly connected to the table. I think it’s probably a small club gig, but the sense of closeness and intimacy is extraordinary. Yes, for example, it feels like a tour rehearsal in a small studio was recorded with a microphone… Would you understand? Even so, the Helsinki performance (Disc 1) has a sense of audience because of the enthusiastic cheering, but the Tampere performance (Disc 2) is even further away, and it’s so close that it feels like you’re really attending a band rehearsal. The second surprise is Graham Bonnet, who is in top form! In his recent visit to Japan, he showed us a voice that was not suitable for his age, but to be honest, his off-key sounds were quite noticeable. However, in this work, he holds the melody tightly and sings it very smoothly. Although he sometimes fakes at the highest notes, most of the songs are in line with the original melody, and the fakes are well controlled and not painful at all. How wonderful is the singing voice that stretches out in the chorus of “God Blessed Video”. Moreover, “I’ve never heard such a good performance,” or rather, “was he really this good?” level continues for two full performances. It’s a singing voice that makes me look forward to his March visit to Japan. Graham, who is in such good form, sings a bunch of his past masterpieces. Four songs from “DOWN TO EARTH”, two songs from “LINBE-UP”, three songs from “Apocalypse”, two songs from “NO PAROLE FROM ROCK ‘N’ ROLL”, two songs from “DISTURBING THE PEACE”, super masterpieces that are “this is it!” are rushed in all at once. If it was just this, it would be “as usual”, but what’s not as usual is the new songs. “Into The Night” and “Rider” from the new album “THE BOOK” are also shown. As it has been well received in the streets, this is amazing because it is comparable to the super masterpieces. “Into The Night” rushes forward with a sense of style, and “Rider” has a pop but beautiful melody… Both songs look great on stage, and Graham sings it proudly and heroically. Not only his singing voice, but he has also written a new masterpiece in 2017… He is in top form. A superb recording by those involved. These are two superb live albums that those who underestimate him and think, “There’s no Schenker or Yngwie…” should listen to. I hope they will be blown away by his performance in Japan next month. No, I’m sure he will do it. And someday he will do an album and full show with Michael Schenker… Although I think it is a bit too big for 69-year-old Graham, this masterpiece is filled with such great form that such a dream no longer seems like a dream.
