Description

From BLUE OYSTER CULT’s 1982 tour, the Worcester, Massachusetts performance on September 24th is released here with a newly discovered stereo sound board sound source! At the time of “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN,” the band was undergoing a gradual change due to member changes, while releasing masterpieces that will remain in rock history and reaching the peak of their tour. With the best sound that approaches the official live performance, you will enjoy the longest 67 minutes of same-day sound source! For Blue Oyster Cult (B.O.C.), the late ’70s and early ’80s were a turning point. Sandy Perlman, the band’s manager and producer, left album production and brought in outside producers to release “MIRRORS” and “CULTOSAURUS ERECTUS,” but the mainstreaming of the songs and sound was viewed as “light” by traditional fans. , and ended up receiving criticism for “losing the band’s feel.” Therefore, Perlman learned from the sound of Black Sabbath, which was successful at the same time with “HEAVEN AND HELL”, and made a stunning comeback with 1981’s “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN” featuring Martin Birch. The album ranked 24th on the US Billboard chart and 29th on the UK chart, and the single “BURNIN’ FOR YOU” became a hit, reaching the US Top 40. Furthermore, in August, they performed at the second “Monsters of Rock” held in Donington, England. Despite this, 1981 has been described by core overseas enthusiasts as “1981 is a black year in the history of Blue Oyster Cult.” The main reasons for this are changes in musicality and conflicts of opinion among the members. As a result, Dr. Albert Bouchard left the company. It was a huge shock not only to the band but also to the fans that the first person to leave the band was Albert, who had made great contributions in terms of performance and composition. The big change in exchange for commercial success is just light and shadow. It was a time when the footsteps of collapse creeping toward success could be clearly heard. Let’s organize and introduce the typical schedules of this era. ●June 1980: Announcement of “CULTOSAURUS ERECTUS” July-November: Tour of North America jointly with BLACK SABBATH (“Black And Blue Tour”) ●July 1981: Announcement of “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN” August 21st: Albert Bouchard Withdrawal. Rick Downey joins August 22nd Appears on 2nd “Monsters of Rock” April 1982 Announces “EXTRA TERRESTRIAL LIVE” August Joint tour with ALDO NOVA begins September 24th Worcester performance ←★This work is here ★ “EXTRA TERRESTRIAL LIVE” released in 1982 symbolized the new era the band had entered. This work breaks away from the underground sound of the ’70s and has a metallic yet melodious sound that is typical of them in the ’80s, recreating not only new songs but also their signature songs at the time. However, this work was a compilation of material from a long period from February 1980 to December 1981, and the drum takes were a mixture of Albert’s play and new member Rick Downey. Although it was sufficient to understand the mood of the time, it was difficult to rate it highly in terms of a sense of unity. The 1982 album included in this work has cleared that “sense of unity” and is praised by overseas enthusiasts as a material that allows them to enjoy the new era B.O.C. live after Rick Downey joined on an official-quality stereo soundboard. The concert will be held in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 24th. This sound source appeared as part of the 3-disc compilation “SUNDBOARD COLLECTION” in the past, and its appeal was known to domestic fans. This time, the same day sound source is made into a disc with a new discovery provided by overseas enthusiasts and the longest new master ever. With the finest clarity and a mix full of official feel, we will unfold a feast of B.O.C. for approximately 68 minutes, including takes that you could not hear before! This live show was broadcast on the music program “The Source” by Massachusetts FM station “WAAF”. Three songs such as “Dominance And Submission” that were played at the beginning of the day were not aired, so we started with “This Ain’t The Summer Of Love” here. This song, which was not included in the official live performance mentioned above, is a must-see from the beginning. The members’ plays are neatly separated into left and right channels, and the thickness of the bottom that resonates heavily makes you feel the difference between the previous release and the master. Following the hard “Hot Rails To Hell”, the new song “Joan Crawford” has a vivid contrast between Alan Rainier’s flowing and dramatic piano and Eric Bloom’s rustic singing! Already giving off the style of a masterpiece, the performance will be a condensed version of the theatrical ’80s B.O.C. Along with these new songs, their signature songs “Cities On Flame” and “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” have a luxurious sound that reflects the times. This is a scene where you can clearly feel the band’s sound changing as members change. From the middle to the second half, “Godzilla”, which includes solo parts for bass and drums, depicts the highlight of the live performance. The climax, “Born To Be Wild,” also transitions from the laser show of the late ’70s to the production of a Harley on stage. You would think that a scene like this could only be seen in a video, but even though it’s only sound, this scene seems to bring to mind the changing appearance of B.O.C. And the last part is the best part of this work! “Burnin’ For You”, which was encoreed on the same day and was not included in past sound sources such as “SUNDBOARD COLLECTION”, appears for the first time here. The same song, which entered the US Top 40 as a single, brought the excitement in the venue to a climax and ended the live performance with a rich aftertaste. “The history of Blue Oyster Cult is divided into official live works.” This is an expression used almost like a proverb among fans and critics. As if to prove these words, B.O.C.’s official live shows have highlighted each era of the band with their individuality. However, the “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN” tour, which was a turning point for the band, cannot be grasped in its true form unless you listen to the live performance after Rick joined (in other words, only from the official version!). A new excavation sound board that lets you enjoy the 1982 Blue Oyster Cult with the best sound is now available! Live at Centrum, Worcester, MA, USA 24th September 1982 STEREO SBD (67:17) 1.
